What actually happens during a dental hygiene appointment?
Your visit is more than just a cleaning. It starts with a dental hygiene assessment, where we review your health history and take a closer look at your teeth, gums, and overall oral health. We may take X-rays when needed to help us see areas that aren’t visible during a regular examination.
Next, we check your gums for signs of inflammation or gum disease and assess the amount of plaque and tartar buildup. This helps us determine the type of cleaning and care that’s right for you.
During your cleaning, we gently remove plaque and hardened tartar from the surfaces of your teeth and from below the gumline. Including areas your toothbrush and floss may not be able to reach. Your teeth may also be polished and flossed to help remove surface stains and leave them feeling fresh and smooth.
Before you leave, we’ll talk about what we found and provide personalized home care recommendations based on your needs whether that means improving your brushing or flossing technique, choosing the right products, or discussing how often you may benefit from a dental hygiene visit.
If we notice anything that may need a dentist’s attention, we’ll let you know and recommend a follow up with your dentist.
Don’t have a dentist? We’ll be happy to refer you to one of our trusted dentists for further assessment and care.
Because dental hygiene isn’t just about clean teeth, it’s about preventing problems, supporting healthy gums, and taking care of your oral health for the long term.
