I often wonder how different our collective health could look if basic micronutrient testing became a routine part of preventative healthcare.
Especially in childhood.
Not because every slightly imperfect result needs a supplement.
Quite the opposite.
I think we should be asking why.
This is one of the things I love most about a functional approach to health.
We're not only asking:
“Is this high or low enough to diagnose something?”
We're asking:
“What is this telling us about how the body is functioning?”
Because nutrients aren't separate from physiology. They're involved in energy production, neurotransmitter synthesis, immune function, methylation, tissue repair, hormone production and thousands of biochemical reactions happening every day.
And yet we can go years, sometimes decades, without taking a meaningful look at nutritional status.
A micronutrient panel isn't a crystal ball. It won't uncover every root cause or predict every illness.
But imagine having nutritional data from childhood onward.
Imagine being able to see what's changing before someone becomes significantly deficient.
What's falling? What keeps falling? What changed?
And most importantly:
Why?
Maybe preventative healthcare shouldn't only be about finding disease early.
Maybe it should also be about creating the conditions that allow health to be maintained in the first place.
That, to me, is what root-cause care is supposed to look like. 💙
