Leaking when you sneeze, jump, or laugh is usually blamed on weak muscles. The fix is supposed to be Kegels.

But our pelvic floor physio Slesha Shah says that's only half the story. A lot of the time, those symptoms come from muscles that are too tight, not weak. And piling on more Kegels makes things worse.

On the new Rooted Family Podcast, Slesha walks us through how to tell the difference, the daily habits that quietly mess with your pelvic floor, and what changes through pregnancy, postpartum, and perimenopause.

"If you've had a baby in the last 18 months, you've probably asked some version of this at 2 am.

In this 90-minute workshop, Julia Nichol, Certified Infant Sleep Educator at Rooted Family, answers the questions that keep parents up at night (literally):
- Why does my baby wake up so often?
- Is this normal?
- When does it actually get easier?
- Am I doing something wrong?
- What's a sleep regression, and is that what's happening?
- Do I have to sleep train?
- How do I set up a nursery that actually supports sleep?

The workshop covers true biological sleep norms, what brain development has to do with sleep, the myths that get repeated everywhere, why waking is often a good thing, and gentle tools you can actually use.

This isn't sleep training. It's responsive, evidence-informed, and built around how your baby actually sleeps. The 90 minutes includes about an hour of presented material and 30 minutes of Q&A so you can bring your own questions.

Whether you're pregnant or already navigating the night wakings, this is for you.

Join us on June 3rd at 2:30 pm for a virtual workshop. $45 + HST.

What if midwives weren't just for pregnancy and birth? What if they were part of every stage of a woman's life?
That's Ola Levitin's vision. In episode 2, she joins Erin and Christine to talk about the midwifery model of care, where it stands in Ontario today, and where she hopes it goes in the next decade.

🎙️ Episode 2 is live. Link in bio.

Before we were Rooted Family Wellness Centre, we were doulas. Which means we've spent years in birth rooms, quietly watching midwives do what they do.

We've watched midwives catch babies in bathtubs, birthing pools, and hospital beds. We've watched them hold space for the hardest moments and the most joyful ones. We've watched them advocate, listen, and trust the people in front of them, sometimes when no one else would.

Today, on International Day of the Midwife, we want to say what we've been saying privately for years: midwives change birth. They change how families remember the day their baby arrived. They change what people believe is possible for their own bodies.

To every midwife we've worked alongside, learned from, and witnessed, thank you. Ottawa families are luckier because of you. 🌿
