The Accudopa Project

The Accudopa Project Finding better ways to live with levodopa. We’ve seen exciting early success and publication of our results is underway.

I’m a health modeller passionate about making life better for those with Parkinson’s disease, dopa-responsive dystonia, and other levodopa-responsive conditions. If you have one of these conditions, are a caregiver, or are a medical practitioner dealing with levodopa, you’re in the right place — welcome! Since 2024 I’ve been developing a tool to help pharmacists, clinicians, and specialists optimi

ze levodopa doses and schedules based on individual needs and symptoms. Your support will directly fund scientific research, help refine our tools, and work towards improving the quality of life for millions who rely on levodopa and dopamine agonists. You’ll also be one of the first to know about open clinical trials involving our work. Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and this page does not offer medical advice. Always talk to qualified members of your care team before making any changes to your medical routine.

medication can cause unpleasant side effects, but exercise can help. The question is how much you need, and whether it can reduce your medication requirements.

Today on Accudopa we're exploring what happens if you take daily exercise to its natural extreme.

Exercise can help slow the progression of several levodopa-responsive conditions and make daily life easier. But what happens when you push

The data disagrees: use a standard scale and the decline tracks linearly for years. 📊

Today we discuss what that predictability means for treating the condition and planning for its evolution.

Parkinson's disease, especially its medication, has a reputation for being unpredictable. The picture changes with a longer view: research t

I really struggled to find an analogy for this week's math-focussed article, and then it hit me: it's calorie counting. I wrote a blog about calorie counting for drugs that let you walk. 😅

Dear Accudopa fans, I need your help!

My dilemma: I need to estimate the hour-by-hour impact of a medication — but the only way to do that directly is to put highly radioactive sugar in your brain and measure the gamma rays it shoots out. (Yes, really. Aren't PET scans fun?) 🧠

The solution: Reverse-engineer the effect from medication logs. I've already made some progress, but need more volunteers.

Where you come in: Do you know anyone taking selegiline or rasagiline for Parkinson's? DM me. All I need is a single day's symptom journal. No radioactivity required. 🎉

As a thank-you, I've written a plain-English breakdown of how MAO-B inhibitors work and why they might matter for you. See the link!
