Simaril Inc Respecting, Empowering & Uniting. We support people in Winnipeg in living full, meaningful lives — with choice, connection, and belonging.

Who we are:

Simaril Inc. first became incorporated in 1986, but it wasn’t until 1987 that Simaril first opened its doors. Simaril was created as part of the Welcome Home Program which was developed to assist people living at the Manitoba Developmental Centre (MDC) in Portage La Prairie to move into their own homes in St. Vital during February of this year. All services offered by Simaril are based on the needs, strengths and accomplishments of each person being supported. Simaril currently supports to people in two areas:

• Community Residential Support: this support is 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

• Supported Independent Living: this support is customized to each individual in that program and support hours are based on the requirements of each individual.

Meet Johana Mesgun, one of our Outreach Support Mentors at Simaril.

As an OSM, Johana works alongside people as they pursue their goals, build independence, and make choices about what matters to them.

Thank you, Johana, for the care and commitment you bring to your work every day.

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We won’t pretend a social media post is reconciliation. But here’s one true thing: every month at Simaril, people supported and staff gather in a circle and drum together.

It’s a small thing. It matters to the people in the room.

People in Simaril: Downey

Downey has called St. Michael home for three years and filled it with the things they love.

Self-care is Downey's thing: meditating, daily affirmations, cooking, gardening, and music. Listening, singing, dancing, all of it.

Ask Downey about meditation, healing crystals, essential oils, or natural remedies and you'll get the full story, with enthusiasm. They blend their own essential oils and recently learned to make homemade candles.

The dream? Their own wellness shop or boutique, one day.

You are the heart of the organization.

That was the message we wanted our Direct Support staff to hear at our appreciation event.

So we brought everyone together. We shared food, watched messages prepared for the team, spent time talking and laughing, and most importantly, made the afternoon about the people who spend so much of their time supporting others.

There were a lot of familiar faces in one room, and a lot of reasons to say thank you.

To our Direct Support staff: we see the work you do, the relationships you build, and the difference you make in people’s everyday lives.

This one was for you.

Every day, you show up, build relationships, listen, encourage, and support people in the moments that make up everyday life.

Your work matters, and so do the connections you build along the way.

To all of our Direct Support Professionals across Simaril, thank you for everything you bring to our community. We appreciate you.
