Blue Jean Jacket Day is a meaningful event dedicated to raising awareness and honouring Missing and Murdered Indigenous Men and Boys (MMIMB). The movement serves as a male-focused counterpart to Red Dress Day (which focuses on women and girls). It was launched in Edmonton in 2023 by Indigenous advocates who noted a gap in resources and awareness surrounding the high rates of violence, exploitation, and homicide faced by Indigenous men and boys.
Participants will gather at the Legislative Building and walk together to The Forks, where the event will include an opening song, prayer, and remarks from leadership. Families impacted by MMIMB will also share their stories and experiences, bringing a voice to this important issue.
