"🌟 Welcome to EMspace! 🌟

At EMspace, we understand the critical importance of nurturing the emotional well-being of our children and young people. Based in the heart of the West Midlands, EMspace is dedicated to providing invaluable emotional support through our Emotional Wellbeing services.

🧠 Did you know that mental health difficulties among children are on the rise? According to Mind, 1 in 6

young people in England (aged 5 to 16) experienced a mental health problem in 2020, up from 1 in 9 in 2017? Our mission is to support schools in addressing these issues and we do this by supporting the development of social and emotional learning (SEL).

🌈 Grounded in the CASEL framework, our approach empowers students with essential life skills. Through SEL, children develop self-awareness, resilience, and healthy coping mechanisms. These skills not only enhance their emotional well-being but also pave the way for academic success and lifelong personal growth.

šŸ“š Our experienced team is committed to creating a safe space where students can explore their feelings, build meaningful connections, and navigate life's challenges. By equipping them with the tools to understand and manage their emotions, we're laying a strong foundation for their future. Get in touch and let us know how we can support your students.

The day after.

England played yesterday, and sadly lost.

There will be many reflections. What-ifs. If-onlys. What might have been.

But don't miss the moment.

You may not always know how to start the conversation or get a child truly onside. But if they're football mad — or even just caught up in the moment like the rest of the nation — why not use it?

People were in pubs and at home, glued to their screens. Even people who'd never call themselves football fans.

Football can do that. And right now, that's a door worth walking through.

Not "how are you feeling?" — which gets a shrug.

But "should you pass or keep the ball when your teammate isn't trying?" — which gets a conversation.

On the Ball is a free, football-focused resource for children aged 7–11. No login. No cost. Works in classrooms, pastoral sessions, mentoring, small groups — and at home.

Even if football didn't make it home — we can still help some children to cope better.

Tonight, England play.

Millions of children will be watching. Feeling every moment.

And tomorrow morning, some of those children will walk into your session — or your classroom, or your living room — carrying all of that.

Football gives us a ready-made, no-pressure way into the conversations that actually matter.

Not "how are you feeling?" — which gets a shrug.

But "should you pass or keep the ball when your teammate isn't trying?" — which gets a conversation.

Tonight the nation watches. Tomorrow you've got 45 minutes. On the Ball gives you somewhere to go with it.

Tonight England make their statement ⚽

Some of the children you work with are in exactly that place too — not in crisis, just not yet showing what they're truly capable of.

Football gives us a way in that we'd be foolish not to use right now.

On the Ball is a free resource that uses football to open up the conversations that actually matter. Ages 7–11. No login. No cost.

Tonight, England are already through. The pressure is off. Now it's about making a statement.

Sound familiar? Some of the children you work with are in exactly that place. Not in crisis. Just waiting for something to unlock them.

Football is that thing — right now, more than ever.

On the Ball is a free resource that uses football to open up the conversations that actually matter. For children aged 7–11. No login. No cost.

Works in classrooms, mentoring sessions, small groups — and at home.

ā“Are we asking the Right Questions?

In our last post, we asked whether behaviour systems are really working.
Now, we’re going deeper:
Where’s the motivation?

This reflection invites us to consider not just what we expect from students—but whether they understand, believe in, and feel supported to meet those expectations.

What if the real questions are:
• Can students do what’s being asked?
• Do they know what they need?
• Are we emphasising the right things?

And for us as educators:
• What do we do next?
• How do we involve families?
• How do we shift from control to curiosity?

At EMspace, we’re opening space for these conversations—and we’d love to hear your perspective.

How do we reconnect the youths to the roots? We need to talk about the culture.

Join us on Nov 13th for a powerful panel discussion exploring how culture influences the way young Black boys see themselves and their futures.

šŸ« Undoubtedly, the focus on cognitive development—thinking, planning, performing is necessary.

But when emotions are out of balance, the brain’s learning systems shut down.
No matter how good the lesson is, it won’t land.

So yes, it’s about the cognitive.
But learning can’t happen where a sense of emotional wellbeing and safety are not created.

Let’s be honest—can we truly support learning without supporting emotions?
