Barefoot Medicine Ltd Functional Medicine for Autism Spectrum Disorders offering home test kits, meal plans and supplements

Owner: Simone Buehner BA BSc LicAc DipCHM MBAcC MRSM MIFM

Barefoot Medicine Ltd is based in Dinas Powys just outside Cardiff. Simone Buehner has been working in healthcare for 20 years since leaving the corporate world in 2001 following the unexpected full-term stillbirth of her first child. Taking a complete career change, she competed her 4-year degree in Acupuncture in 2007 and post-graduate

studies in Chinese Herbal Medicine in 2008. Since then she has devoted her time to helping clients with fertility issues and also mental and emotional wellbeing issues such as bereavement, stress & anxiety and since 2010 she has volunteered with military veterans organizations specializing in post-conflict mental health issues. For four years Simone worked part time for the British Acupuncture Council as a Professional Development Lead helping other practitioners across Wales, Herefordshire and Shropshire and for 7 years she ran study and support groups for acupuncturists and herbalists in her local area. Since 2019 Simone has continued with further training to qualify as a practitioner of Functional Medicine. This enables her to offer clients laboratory testing for hormonal imbalances, digestive and gut health and detoxification processes, all of which are foundational for every other aspect of physical and mental health. Functional Medicine is little-known in the UK, but is extremely popular in the USA. Practitioners must be qualified in certain areas of healthcare (conventional western medicine, nutrition or acupuncture) before being allowed to train with the Institute for Functional Medicine. However, I believe this branch of personalized medicine will grow in importance and popularity over the coming years and I would be very happy to talk to anyone who would like to understand more about it.

I have written this book in response to the many questions parents have asked me over the years that I have been supporting theim and their children. The majority of whom, were told there is nothing more that can be done, but that has not been the experience in my functional medicine clinic.

I have just published this book on Kindle as well as Kindle unlimited, so anyone who has an unlimited account will be able to access it at no additional cost. Please share this post if you know of people who may be interested. Thank you!

Lilac tincture is a way to extract the goodness from the flower of the lilac tree. Anything in nature that has a blue/purple colour gets it from ā€˜cyanins’ which have powerful antioxidant properties. It only takes 5 minutes to prepare and is a perfect way to take time out in nature.

The joy of working from home is that I get to have a 5-minute nature break and make this delicious lilac-infused sugar to sprinkle on top of cakes or biscuits (just as you would use vanilla sugar) ā¤ļø

Our health is such a personal and private matter that I am always immensely grateful to any of my clients who feel able to speak out about the challenges they have faced and their journey of working with me. This is the story of a 58-year-old gentleman who went from peak fitness that most of us can only dream of, to the utter devastation of being wiped out by Long Covid. He talks of how the NHS was at a loss to be able to help him and how his immune system became so weak that he would be floored by even the mildest of bugs going around.

However, after taking a functional medicine approach to long covid, he recovered to the point where last week he successfully challenged himself to walk 60 miles in 3 days over the Welshi hills and mountains.

Here is his unedited story, to inspire you and to give hope to anyone you may know who is suffering from long covid, if you would care to share this post. Thank you

Healthy life expectancy (your health span) has fallen among both men and women in the UK to below the age of 61 according to a BBC report last week. How can that be when we have never been more advanced with scientific breakthroughs, nutrigenomics (how food affects whether genes are triggered or not), home testing kits to see if we are getting the right nutrients, wearable devices that calculate our steps... clearly, there is a big piece of the puzzle missing.

After 27 years in natural healthcare, my belief is that it is all failing because it is tackling the symptoms once they arrive. It is when we are healthy that we need to be doing the most for our future health, yet it is human nature to wait until we get a warning sign.

I would urge you to join me on my monthly health re:set challenge so that we can fuel our bodies for a speedy recovery from illness or injury if and when it happens, not wait until after the event and become another of those statistics. I'll be 57 in July and the thought of only having 4 years of healthy, pain-free life ahead of me is horrifying, so I'm doing all i can now to avoid that happening.

Are you wearing anything made of cotton right now? Can you imagine that it was once growing in a field? Unfortunately, a huge amount of pesticides are used for cotton production, then harsh chemicals in the dyeing process don’t just dye the cloth - they make nature die as well! But there are many other plants that could also be used to make cloth and this bamboo is one of them! I really believe that we cannot win the battle against climate change until we become more connected to the plant kingdom and recognize that it is the root of our food, our medicine, our clothing, parfum, books and pencils for sharing knowledge, flooring, furniture… everywhere we look we have used the natural world to support our growth and development, but commercialism has disconnected us so much that we take it for granted until something goes catastrophically wrong. I want to try to create more posts that remind us what an abundant and bountiful, beautiful world we live in so that we can all reconnect woh what matters.

Making time for creativity shouldn’t be seen as a luxury! Time out to ā€˜create’ lowers stress levels and open our mind to voices, options, ideas that the stress hormones (emergency ā€˜get me out of here’ hormones) had previously shut down. If you run away from a wooly mammoth, you don’t have time to plan various routes out or think beyond how to get to safety. Afterwards, though, when the stress hormones have gone away, you can see all sorts of options. In modern times, we have a constant drip-feed of stress hormones but our biological response to that has not changed! So if you have a stressful lifestyle, hobbies are a real tool in your survival bag, not a luxury!
