🍂 Protect Yourself This Winter: Our Autumn Vaccination Programme Starts on 1st October! 🍂

Winter is on its way, and we at Bridgegate Chemist are here to help you stay safe and healthy! 🛡️ From Thursday, 1st October, we will be officially rolling out the NHS Autumn COVID-19 and Adult Flu vaccination programmes.

Getting vaccinated is the best way to top up your protection against severe illness as the weather gets colder. Plus, for extra convenience, if you are eligible for both, you can often have them safely co-administered at the same appointment! 💉✨

Not sure if you qualify for a free NHS vaccine this year? Check the eligible cohorts below 👇

🦠 COVID-19 Autumn Booster Eligibility:

Adults aged 75 years and over

Residents in a care home for older adults

Individuals aged 6 months and older who are immunosuppressed

🤧 Adult Flu Vaccination Eligibility:

Adults aged 65 years and over

Adults aged 18 to 64 in clinical risk groups (e.g., those with diabetes, heart conditions, chronic respiratory or kidney disease)

Pregnant women (eligible from 1st September!)

Carers in receipt of Carer's Allowance, or those who are the main carer for an older or disabled person

Close household contacts of immunocompromised individuals

Frontline social care workers (without an employer-led occupational health scheme)

People living in long-stay residential care homes

People experiencing homelessness

📅 How to book:

Appointments are available NOW via the NHS app or by going online and visiting the NHS National Booking Service to secure your slot (you may be given the option of several local pharmacies offering the vaccination - remember to choose Bridgegate Chemist as your chosen site!). For those of you who may not be computer savvy then ring 119 from your phone for free to arrange an appointment.
Walk-in appointments will still be offered too in between the pre-booked appointments.

📣 We’re pleased to be taking part in the NHS MenB Vaccination Service! 💉

We’re excited to offer the Meningococcal B (MenB) vaccine as part of this new NHS programme designed to protect those at higher risk.

✅ Who is eligible?

You may be eligible if you are:

* 🎓 Currently in Year 13 (born between 1st Sept 2007 – 31st Aug 2008)
* 🎒 Undergraduate students under 25 starting university for the first time in Autumn 2026
* 🏡 Young people under 25 entering further education and living in shared accommodation or halls for the first time

This includes students coming from other parts of the UK and international students studying in England.

📅 When does the service start?

* The programme officially begins 20th July 2026
* ⚠️ However, we’ve been advised that vaccine stock may not arrive until that day

👉 For this reason, we recommend booking appointments from 21st July onwards to avoid disruption.

All appointments are managed through the NHS National Booking Service:

* Search online for “NHS MenB vaccine booking”
* Choose your preferred pharmacy and time
* Book quickly and easily

📦 Important information about vaccine supply

* Vaccine stock is allocated nationally by the NHS
* This means there may occasionally be very high demand and limited availability
* If we anticipate any stock shortages, we will contact patients in advance to rearrange appointments where needed

We want to keep our patients informed about a growing issue affecting community pharmacies across the UK.

Due to ongoing medicine supply shortages, we are sometimes unable to obtain certain prescribed medications in a timely manner. This is a nationwide challenge and unfortunately outside of our control.

If your medication is affected, our team may need to:
• Contact your GP to arrange an alternative treatment
• Request a different brand or formulation (e.g. capsules instead of tablets or vice versa)
• Ask you to allow a little extra time while we source stock

Please be assured that we will always do everything we can to ensure you receive safe and appropriate treatment.

As you may be aware, we are currently upgrading our computer system to improve our service in the long term.
Unfortunately, this upgrade has caused some temporary issues:

• Not all patient data transferred correctly, and we are manually updating records.

• The new system is more difficult to navigate, which is slowing down our workflow.

• For those patients for whom we place monthly medication requests on their behalf, if you have personally requested any medication outside of your usual monthly delivery, please let us know so we can ensure it is prepared without delay.

Recently published UKHSA surveillance data indicates that influenza is circulating in the community earlier than usual this season with a drifted strain of Influenza A(H3N2) predominating.
It’s important that all eligible patients and healthcare workers get vaccinated as soon as possible.
At Bridgegate Chemist, we continue to offer the influenza vaccination without the need for an appointment.
