A focused mind doesn’t have time for anxiety.

Have you ever been so busy that you forgot to be anxious.

When your mind is clear and centred you’re in the moment. You’re not spinning in the “what ifs”.

Anxiety creeps in when your head is full of noise, when you’re thinking about everything except what actually matters right now.

That’s why breathwork can be so powerful. Slowing down your breathing so you have long slow controlled breaths helps activate your parasympathetic nervous system, rest & digest. It’s like a built in relaxation switch. It slows everything down and makes you feel calm and relaxed.

It helps quiet the chaos, helps you focus and gives your mind a bit of peace.

When your mind is busy being present there’s no room for anxiety.

Learning simple breathing exercises is a great way to help reduce anxiety.

Happy Saturday

We were in Australia for nearly 2 weeks and were lucky enough to be in Sydney for their Vivid Experience.

It was absolutely chucking it down but we still managed to stay and see some of the displays. I heard there was lots of sunshine back home then.

Barry always says happy wife, happy life, right now I think we’re both very happy 😆.

Have a great weekend whatever you’re doing.

Mind Set Shift

Not every thought deserves your attention.

Some thoughts are helpful and some are protective but some are just an old noise playing in the background.

The problem is when we keep listening to every anxious or negative thought as though it is a fact, the mind starts believing everything it hears.

Just because you think something doesn’t automatically mean it’s true.

Today just notice your thoughts instead of immediately attaching to them.

There’s no need to argue with them, or panic about them, but importantly you do not need to believe every single one.

Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is to let a thought pass through without building a story around it.

That takes practice and the more you practice it the easier it becomes and changes everything over time.

I still catch myself doing this.

What is Silent Counselling?

Silent Counselling is a non invasive, meridian based therapy and just one of the methods I use in clients session. It enables you to release negative emotions that influence your life without the need to talk about past events.

Some clients aren’t willing or able to discuss the cause of their issue, let alone know the root cause of it.

Fears

Phobias

Feelings of shame & guilt

And so much more.

All without the need to talk about your past, giving you the choice and freedom to move on.

Anxiety doesn’t always have to feel like an uphill struggle.

Recently on holiday, to keep my steps in, I walked every morning and would walk up the hill in this picture, well I actually used the steps.

The first day I thought I’ve done this lots of times so I know it’s easy. Then I got to the top, puffing and pecking.

The next day I thought ok let’s do this, so I thought I had to push myself a little harder, nope even more out of breath.

Each day I’d go back and think of a different way to approach it, start fast end slow, start slow, end slow It didn’t matter how many times I walked it or in what form. I was breathless and out of puff by the time I got to the top. I didn’t want to not do it, the view is amazing.

Anxiety can feel like that sometimes too.

You try different ways to cope, some days feel easier than others. Some days will even feel exhausting, but that doesn’t mean that you’re failing.

Sometimes progress is just simply continuing the climb, even when it’s feeling hard. Eventually you’ll begin to realise you are stronger, calmer and more capable than you first thought.

Thought, feeling, action

The way you think can affect the way you feel, which then has an affect on what you do.

If your the kind of person who gets nervous about exams, interviews or meeting new people you may notice that you creat an image in your mind of how it’s going to be, you might even have some negative self talk. Then perhaps you’ll start to get nervous and have butterflies in your tummy. You’ll start to produce cortisol, which will make you feel stressed. You might then find that you’re pacing backwards and forwards, or tapping your foot, or if you’re like me, shaking your leg. You’re breathing might begin to change.

All these are natural when you’re nervous, but you can change all of that by either changing your thinking. Start to think of something more positive, start telling yourself all the good things you’ll achieve if you get that job, pass those exams or what good things can come from meeting those people.

Change how you hold yourself, when you think positively your body posture will change as will those external behaviours, then they will also change how you feel internally, and you can start to release oxytocin and endorphins.

How you think affects how you feel and affects how you behave, but by changing just one of those things it will start to change the others.

Change what you do on the outside so it can change how you feel on the inside. Action creates better thinking and better feeling.

A lot of anxiety starts with the thoughts we repeatedly tell ourselves.

One of the most common thinking patterns is catastrophising. This is when your mind jumps straight to the worst case scenario.

For example, you might send a message and don’t get a reply.
Suddenly the mind says:
“They’re upset with me.”
“I’ve done something wrong.”
“This is going to turn into a problem.”

Your brain is trying to protect you by preparing you for danger, but what it does is it creates anxiety over situations that are not actually happening.

When you come for a session with me we look at how your thought patterns are working and help change the emotional response connected to them.

Sometimes changing the way you respond to a thought changes everything.

If you would like help managing anxiety or overthinking then pm me or call.

Mind Set Shift

You don’t have to solve everything today.

Some days are for progress and some days are simply for getting through.

And to be honest they both count.

There’s no need to put so much pressure on being constantly productive, positive, healing or improving yourself that you forget to be a human being not a machine.

If today feels heavy exhausting or even mentally noisy then maybe the goal doesn’t need to be fixing everything.

Maybe the goal is to just slow down enough to breathe properly again.

Drink some water, step outside for 5 minutes, reply to just one message instead of 10. Do things that will help your nervous system feel safe. Those small things can matter more than you realise.

You’re allowed to have days where your best looks different, and I’ll be reminding myself of that this week too.

Not every day is going to be a good day.

It’s not possible to be positive ALL the time.

You might have days where you just can’t pinpoint what’s wrong, you might feel like you have the weight of the world on your shoulders and not even know why.

But, guess what you’re allowed to have those days. I had one just recently so I reached out to one of my best friends.

Healing is learning how to support yourself through the range of feelings you might be experiencing, and that might include asking for help.

We often go through life not wanting to “bother” people by asking for help for anything, so we struggle on, but it’s in those moments of asking and receiving that we can move on quicker than if we were doing it on our own.

Find strength in knowing that someone cares enough to help you, and by allowing them to help you, you’re helping them.

Weekly Affirmations

Affirmations are a great way of rewiring your brain to focus on the positive which helps to reduce anxiety.

When anxiety rises, the mind often speeds up and the body follows.

The heart races, breathing becomes shallow and thoughts start spiralling.

In those moments is when affirmations can help interrupt the cycle and bring the nervous system back to calm.

One simple affirmation I often share is:

“I can slow my breath and my body will follow.”

Say it slowly while taking a gentle breath in and an even slower breath out.

The words are important because they remind your mind what is possible. The breathing is important because it signals safety to the body.

The more you repeat it, the more familiar calm begins to feel.

You don’t need to force yourself to relax, you are simply giving your mind and body a different message.

Try it today for the next week and notice what changes.
