A Friendly Reminder for Parents and Carers of Children Moving to Secondary School

If you are applying for a secondary school place through the usual mainstream admissions process, it's worth making sure your application is submitted on time.

⏱ Application closing date 31st October 2026
🗓️ National Offer Day: 1 March 2027
📝 Waiting lists established: 15 March 2027

For children and young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), secondary school placements will be discussed as part of the Phase Transfer Annual Review process in liaison with your EHC Coordinator.

About the Seminar
‘Managing Anger’ is one of the Autism Seminars for Families which provides information and advice to parents and carers of children and young people with autism. This is a face to face seminar.

The Seminar will help families to:
> discuss why children with autism often have challenges with distressed behaviour and managing their emotions
> identify a low arousal approach for support through stressful situations
> explore the cycle of anger and possible support strategies
> examine strategies for managing feelings.

Seminar cost?
Families can book a ‘Managing Emotions’ seminar place for £5 each (cash please), which includes a full resource pack of useful information, advice and support guidelines. This seminar is delivered by a seminar facilitator using materials from The National Autistic Society.
Light refreshments will be provided, but please bring your own lunch.

A new report has been published today. The conclusive findings of the independent review into prevalence and support for mental health conditions, ADHD and autism should finally end the blame and suspicion young people and their families face when they reach out for help.

The report must now be used as crucial evidence in shaping the government’s SEND and health and social care reforms so that they meet the needs of all children and young people.

Professor Fonagy spells out that currently people wait too long for support and diagnosis and that diagnosis has become a gate to support that could and should be available earlier.

This must be addressed urgently by government, so people can get the help they need, when they need it. Assessments must still be available for those who require and want them.

The risk of failing to acknowledge another generation of children, who just want the ordinary things in life like making friends going to school and eventually working, is too high to ignore.
