Here are a few CBT tips to try:

Pause and notice your thoughts. Ask yourself, “Is this thought helpful?” or “Is there another way to look at this?”

Challenge negative thinking. Try replacing “I can’t cope” with “This feels difficult, but I can take one step at a time.”

Break things down. When life feels overwhelming, focus on one small task rather than everything at once.

Use grounding techniques. Take a few slow breaths, notice what you can see, hear, and feel, and bring yourself back to the present moment.

Keep a thought diary. Write down the situation, your thoughts, feelings, and actions. This can help you notice patterns and understand what may be affecting your mood.

Be kind to yourself. Speak to yourself the way you would speak to someone you care about.

Taking care of your mental health is a journey, and small steps can make a big difference.

Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to introduce my practice to a group of wonderful women.

In the black community, we have definitely come a long way with regards to mental health. However, we still have a long way to go.

ADHD and Austism exists amongst all human races. Unfortunately, some people still have this belief that authorities are quick to label a child autistic or ADHD when they are not.

This is untrue(from my experience anyway). We must be accepting of reality because that is the only way we can provide the right support to our children.

If your child is neurodivergent and you are struggling to understand what is going on for them. I do provide support for children and their parents in understanding and processing their emotions and overcoming their worries/anxieties, which can often present as melt downs or anger outburst.
