This summer, The Toy Library has joined forces with Runspire Together to offer weekly family Nordic walking sessions. These walks transformed into weekly themed adventures, including pirates, dinosaurs, space explorers and more! The sessions have inspired families to get out and about this holiday with fun activities for the children and the opportunity for their parents to meet new people, discover new places and take ideas to make walking each day an exciting experience for everyone!

Our community development coordinator Kate visited the walk this week. “It was so great to see everyone having so much fun and amazing to watch the children exploring the woods and enjoying being out in nature. Everyone I spoke to said how much they value these walks and hope they continue. The Toy Library and Runspire are showing everyone that if they take the time to walk with their children, although it may take a little longer, with a bit of imagination even a simple journey like going to the supermarket can become an exciting adventure!”

We saw this lovely post from one of our joint project participants and just had to share it!

It’s wonderful to hear what our Adventure Walks with The Toy Library have meant to local families.

A huge thank you for the kind words and, most importantly, for being part of it.

Here’s the original post:

“Me and Amelia were awarded this certificate yesterday, it wasn't expected but equally nice. We were part of the Nordic walkers and at times it was only me and Amelia who joined Paul, Melkorka and Elisha, but now all these months later, the group is bigger and rightly so.

On a final note please support everything The Toy Library and Runspire do as if we don't use it we lose it.”

That final sentence says it all.

Thank you for supporting local community projects — and helping them grow.

New audio guide launched! Perfect way to get out and about and go for a walk in nature, close to the city whilst listening to some information about the history, ecology and personal connections to the park. See below:

🎧We are excited to announce the launch of the Colwick Woods Audio Guide, created by Excavate with the help of The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

We are extremely grateful to everyone involved in this project. It is a wonderful summary of the history, ecology, and personal connections associated with this underrated park.

If you want to get out in nature and explore some hidden stories and beautiful views right on the doorstep of the city, this is the perfect activity!

Please see the Excavate website for more details: https://excavate.org.uk/the-colwick-woods-audio-guide/
