This might be a sped-up video… but the change we achieved was very real.

This client came in with an incredibly tight, painful back. Even something as simple as bending down to take his shoes off had become difficult and uncomfortable.

Using Tuina massage combined with Neuromuscular Release techniques, we worked into the areas of muscular tension and restriction that were preventing his body from moving freely.

So what does Neuromuscular Release actually mean?

In simple terms, when muscles have been tight or painful for a while, they can almost become “stuck” in a protective pattern. The nervous system keeps telling them to tighten and guard the area — which can lead to pain, stiffness and restricted movement.

Neuromuscular techniques use targeted pressure, movement and release to work with both the muscles and the nervous system. The aim is to encourage those overactive muscles to relax, reduce tension and allow the body to move more naturally again.

And the difference here was immediate.

At the end of his treatment, he bent down, picked up his shoes and put them on without a trace of the pain he'd arrived with.

Sometimes it's not about simply massaging where it hurts.
It's about understanding why the body is holding tension in the first place and helping it let go.

Golfer's elbow is often caused by repetitive overload of the forearm, but the pain at the elbow is rarely the whole story.

Restrictions and tension higher up the arm, shoulder and neck can all contribute to the problem.

That's why, in this treatment, I'm working not only around the elbow but also through the upper arm to release tight muscles, improve movement and address the underlying cause.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we look beyond the diagnosis, using electro-acupuncture alongside therapies such as massage, cupping and Gua Sha to reduce pain, restore function and support long-term healing.
