DM Orthotics

DM Orthotics DM Orthotics are world leaders in dynamic elastomeric fabric orthoses used for the management of neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.

DM Orthotics are world leaders in the design and manufacture of fabric orthoses. Our patented Dynamic Movement Orthoses are specifically designed for the management of neurological and musculoskeletal conditions. We employ our own expert clinical team who are able to understand the specific needs of health professionals and their patients. Our orthoses work using strategically placed panelling whi

ch positions the body into improved postural alignment. This new bio-mechanical state combined with enhanced proprioception, stimulates and adjusts the neuro-sensory system, training muscles to work with improved tone, strength and performance. Our Dynamic Movement Orthoses use elastomeric fabrics which are soft, flexible and strong allowing greater range of movement, comfort and muscle use. All our Dynamic Movement Orthoses are specifically prescribed for the patient to ensure a perfectly tailored fit suited to the needs of the individual. They can be used to manage conditions such as: Cerebral Palsy, Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Ataxia, Dystonia, Scoliosis and many more. We offer FREE training to clinical professionals who would like to learn more about our products and how they can be used for their patients. DM Orthotics maintains a strong focus on research and development and has a single goal – to improve function and independence.

September is Dystonia Awareness Month
Dystonia is a neurological condition that can cause uncontrollable muscle cramps and spasms, unusual twisting of the body, tremors and other symptoms that can be persistent or triggered by stress or particular activities.

Having a significant overlap with Cerebral Palsy, it's common for the two conditions to present themselves side by side, such as in the case of our patient Ben. Diagnosed with both Dystonia and Asymmetrical Cerebral Palsy as a baby, Ben has lived with symptoms such as high muscle tone in his arms and legs, low tone in his trunk, alongside a limited ability to sit unaided.

With the use of Dynamic Movement Orthoses and the support of our in-house clinicians, we were able to help dampen dystonic movements, provide posture support and improve head control for Ben.
Orthotics can play a significant part in supporting people with dystonia and through understanding, awareness and education, we hope we can shed some light on Dystonia as a condition, its symptoms and how we can provide support, as we have done for over 20 years.

In support of World Cerebral Palsy Day on Tuesday 6th October, we’re running a day of free assessment sessions for people who want to explore our Dynamic Movement Orthoses (DMO). In collaboration with our partners, Mini Wonders Children's Physiotherapy and The Movement Centre, we will have 3 clinics with free, first-come, first-served consultations with one of our clinical specialists at the locations listed below.

In fact, we’re waiving all clinical fees for customers who attend. So, as well as a free assessment on the day, if we go on to prescribe one of our orthoses, the fitting and review fee would also be completely free of charge.

To book a slot, please visit https://www.dmorthotics.com/world-cerebral-palsy-day/ to secure your space.

Today we say goodbye to Mary, who will be retiring after 20 years of working at DM Orthotics.

Mary has been with us since the very beginning, working as a machinist in our manufacturing department. As one of 15 employees back in 2004, Mary has been an active part of helping us grow, but also assembling countless Dynamic Movement Orthoses (DMO) for patients with a variety of conditions for over 20 years.

“It’s been a genuine pleasure to work with Mary throughout the years. Besides being extremely competent and professional in her work, Mary has been a wonderful person. Sadly, knowing her time with us has come to a close, I’m excited for her to start her next chapter and enjoy a long and happy retirement.” Trish Smith, Factory Manager

Thank you very much for all your hard work throughout the years, Mary. From all of us at DM Orthotics, we wish you a happy retirement!

One of the most satisfying parts of working with our patients is hearing how much impact our Dynamic Movement Orthoses (DMO) have on their day-to-day lives. Sometimes, we’re even fortunate enough to hear from our patients themselves, like Ben.

Ben is a young man who has been wearing our DMO Custom Suit following a Cerebral Palsy & Dystonia diagnosis when he was a baby. Over a decade since his first suit, Ben still wears one (now in the colours of his favourite rugby team, Bristol Bears Rugby), which helps him maintain his spinal posture, improve his head control, and maximise postural stability.

Our Custom Suits and other DMOs can all be found on our website, along with swatches for our new, unique patterned fabrics, classic colour customisation options and our Essentials Range of pre-sized orthoses: www.dmorthotics.com

It’s Scoliosis Awareness Month!

Scoliosis is a neurological or idiopathic condition which can include vertebral rotation as well as an “S” or “C” shaped spine. The “C” shaped curve is often associated with neurological onset scoliosis due to low spinal muscle tone. The “S” shaped curve is often associated with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and more complex neurological scoliosis presentations.

There are many ways in which Scoliosis affects people’s lives, from uneven posture and balance, to the more personal, overlooked difficulties like clothing not fitting properly. It’s important we play our part this June to raise awareness of this condition which effects 2-3% of people in the UK alone.

We hope you will join us this month in taking the time to learn more about Scoliosis and share information to help increase awareness within your communities.

We’ve helped many people with Scoliosis over the last 20 years and some of their stories can be found on our website, along with details of the various Dynamic Movement Orthoses (DMO) we’ve used to help manage their symptoms.

For more information about what we do and how we can help with Scoliosis, please visit our website at: https://www.dmorthotics.com/knowledge-hub/conditions/scoliosis/
