f you have been to a ritual held by the Coven of Yggdrasil, you will have noticed that we always begin by calling the quarters, the watchtowers and the elements.
This opening rite is far more than tradition. It is the act of creating sacred space, marking the boundary between the ordinary world and the magical realm in which our work takes place. As we turn to each direction, we honour the guardians of the watchtowers and invite the energies of Air, Fire, Water and Earth to be present within the circle.
Each element brings its own gifts. Air inspires thought, wisdom and communication. Fire brings passion, transformation and will. Water connects us to emotion, intuition and healing. Earth offers stability, strength and grounding.
By calling the quarters and the elements, we align ourselves with the natural forces that surround and sustain us. It helps us centre our minds, focus our intentions and create a balanced and protected space for ritual, spell work and spiritual connection.
This practice reminds us that we are not separate from nature but part of a living, interconnected world. As the circle is cast and the quarters are called, we step into sacred space together, ready to honour the old ways and work in harmony with the energies of the universe.
