SEND IASS provides FREE, confidential, impartial advice and support on all matters SEND related across education, health and social care in North Northants.

North Northants Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice, and Support Service (SEND IASS) is a statutory provision operating at arm's length of North Northants Council. We provide free, confidential, and impartial advice, guidance, and support to children and young people (0-25 years) with SEND, as well as their parents and carers. At North Northants SEND IASS, we empower chi

ldren and young people with SEND, along with their parents and carers, to understand their rights, fulfil their aspirations, and reach their potential. Our experienced team possesses extensive legal and localised knowledge across education, health, and social care. We provide a variety of flexible services, including training, advocacy, appeal tribunal support, referrals to statutory and voluntary agencies, access to local and national support groups, a telephone advice line available Monday to Friday, and in-person appointments. We are dedicated to strengthening our community identity and enhancing our collaborative relationships to meet needs and ensure the voices of our children, young people, and parents and carers are heard. As we settle into a new academic year, this quote serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that everyday actions can have on future outcomes.

For many families of children and young people with SEND, September can bring a mixture of hope, anticipation and uncertainty. New classes, new routines, new transitions and new challenges can all feel significant, particularly after the long journey many families have already travelled.

What is often unseen is the dedication that takes place behind the scenes (the emails sent late at night, the meetings attended, the time spent researching, the questions asked). It is also the encouragement given on difficult days and the determination to ensure that a child's voice is heard and their needs are understood.

At SEND IASS, we see first hand the commitment shown by families every day. We see the courage it takes to keep moving forward, even when the process feels overwhelming.

You will be the first point of contact for enquiries, supporting triage activity, coordinating administrative processes and helping to maintain a high-quality, responsive service. There is still time to have your say on two Department for Education SEND consultations, both of which close on the 18th September 2026:

🔶 Education Otherwise Than At School (EOTAS) - seeking views on proposals relating to:

• EOTAS arrangements for children and young people with EHCPs
• Support for children unable to attend school due to health needs
• The use of accredited online education providers for alternative provision
• Future oversight, accountability and quality standards for EOTAS provision

🔶 Upfront Funding for Mainstream Schools: Creating a Local SEND Inclusion Formula - seeking views on proposals to:

• Increase the share of SEND funding provided directly to mainstream schools
• Support earlier intervention and more responsive SEND support
• Reduce delays and bureaucracy associated with accessing funding
• Introduce a new local SEND inclusion funding formula
• Explore changes to the current £6,000 SEND support cost threshold

The government has stated that no final decisions have been made, and consultation responses will help inform future policy development.

Whether you are a parent carer, child or young person, practitioner, school leader or SEND professional, this is an opportunity to share your experiences and perspectives on proposed changes that could impact the future SEND system.
