SOZ, VEGANS!!
But let’s be real… not all protein is created equal.
Do you even know how your body actually uses the protein you eat?
Let me break it down:
✅ Biological Value (BV) = how efficiently your body uses a protein source for building and repairing tissues.
It’s basically a score showing how much of the absorbed nitrogen from that protein gets retained in your body for muscle work and recovery.
The higher the BV, the more your body actually benefits.
🥚 Eggs, 🥛 milk, 🍗 meat, poultry, fish → high BV
🌱 Most plant proteins → lower BV
Why are vegan proteins lower BV?
Because they often lack one or more essential amino acids your body needs for full protein synthesis. Animal proteins are complete, meaning they deliver all the essential aminos in the right balance — while most plant sources fall short unless carefully combined (e.g., rice + beans, lentils + grains).
Even soy and quinoa — the plant champs — can’t quite match the top-tier efficiency of something like an egg or whey protein.
That said: A balanced, well-planned vegan diet can still meet your needs — but don't be fooled by protein content look into BV
At the end of the day: Discipline + smart fueling always win.
