FACT: Perfumers dream of rare aromatic oils!
Coffee flower is not only rare but delicate and short lived. It explains why I was quoted €1500 for 28 grams of its oil from Colombia!! This makes it over €52K a kilo...Still a dream💭✨️
Once coffee flowers bloom, they are only open for a day or two before they wilt and fall off the branch. At this stage, they have reached the end of their pollination period. When they fall off the tree, it leaves behind a small carpel that looks like a tiny green pinhead. In about 6-7 months, this small carpel will become a coffee cherry with one or two seeds inside that will grow into coffee.
For their growth, the plants first need heavy rain. Within 2 weeks of the first rains, the buds on the trees will begin to bloom. 4 weeks later, the scent of the flowers reaches its peak of the blooming season. It is considered something to celebrate in the farming regions as it the flowers begin to fall to the ground within 3 days and signal that the cherries are starting to develop.
If you ever smelled coffee flowers, you know its scent is narcotic and delicate, like a velvet glove on the skin.
