At the York Pain Group, we believe in expert care that looks at the whole person. Leading that mission is Dr. Armstrong, a consultant with a career defined by clinical excellence, compassionate care and a strategic vision for service development.

Her Background:
With elite training from Edinburgh, Oxford, and Bart’s London, Dr. Armstrong has been a consultant since 2006. She has led and established specialist pain services in diverse settings, including Stoke Mandeville and rural Scotland, before becoming the Regional Lead Clinician for NHS pain services in York and the wider North Yorkshire region.

Specialisms:
Dr. Armstrong focuses on helping patients regain function from conditions such as:

- Back and Neck pain
- Musculoskeletal pain
- Multifidus dysfunction
- Neuropathic (nerve) pain
- Complex Regional Pain Syndromes (CRPS)

Why does my lower back pain go down my leg?

Back pain that travels into the buttock, thigh, or leg is often referred to as sciatica. This happens when the nerves at the bottom of your spine become irritated or compressed — usually by a slipped disc or spinal wear and tear.

Symptoms may include:

Sharp, burning pain down the back of the leg

Numbness, tingling, or weakness
