As the school year begins, new shoes, PE lessons and busy schedules can put extra pressure on growing feet.

Many parents don't realise that concerns such as verrucas, ingrown toenails, nail changes or foot discomfort can affect children's confidence and daily activities.

At Kin Body & Sole, you'll receive professional foot care from a degree-qualified practitioner with NHS experience, providing evidence-based advice and treatment tailored to each individual.

If your child has been complaining about sore feet, avoiding certain activities, or you've noticed changes in their feet or nails, seeking professional advice early can make all the difference.

Have you noticed changes to your toenails but aren't sure what's causing them?

Many people assume every thickened or discoloured nail is a fungal infection, but that's not always the case. Nail trauma, underlying skin conditions and other factors can produce similar symptoms.

Getting the correct diagnosis is the first step towards effective treatment.

At Kin Body & Sole, we provide professional assessments, personalised treatment plans and ongoing support to help you achieve healthier nails.

Your Feet Are Your Body's Built-In Balance System

Most people think of their feet as simply something to walk on, but they're actually packed with thousands of nerve endings that are constantly sending information to your brain. When foot pain, injury, reduced sensation, poor footwear, or certain health conditions affect this process, balance and movement can become less efficient.

That's why good foot health is about much more than avoiding aches and pains. Healthy feet help support confidence, mobility, and independence throughout life.
If you're experiencing foot pain, instability, or changes in sensation, book an appointment with Kin Body & Sole for professional assessment and advice.

Verruca or Just Hard Skin?

Verrucae are a common foot condition that we regularly assess and treat at Kin Body & Sole.
A verruca is caused by a strain of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) that affects the skin on the feet. They can develop at any age and are often picked up in communal areas such as swimming pools, gyms, and changing rooms.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that every painful patch of hard skin is a verruca. Corns, calluses, and verrucae can look very similar, which is why an accurate diagnosis is important.
While some verrucae disappear without treatment, others can become painful, spread, or affect day-to-day activities.

Concerned about a verruca or persistent hard skin? Book an appointment with us today.

Fungal Nail Infections: Don't Ignore the Signs

Fungal nail infections are one of the most common conditions we see at Kin Body & Sole. Many people assume a thickened, discoloured nail is simply a cosmetic issue, but fungal infections can progress over time, affecting multiple nails and becoming increasingly difficult to treat.

Who is at higher risk?
- People with sweaty feet
- Regular gym users and swimmers
- Those who have had athlete's foot
- Anyone wearing tight or poorly ventilated footwear

Early diagnosis is key. Not every damaged or discoloured nail is fungal, which is why a professional assessment is important before starting treatment.

If you've been struggling with foot, ankle, knee, hip, or lower back pain, a biomechanics assessment can help identify what's really going on.

At Kin Body & Sole, our 60-minute biomechanics appointment is a comprehensive assessment designed to understand how your body moves and whether movement patterns are contributing to your symptoms.

Depending on your assessment findings, recommendations may include:
- Exercises and rehabilitation
- Footwear advice
- Orthoses (insoles)
- Activity modifications
- Ongoing treatment and support

We don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Every treatment plan is tailored to the individual. Our goal is to help you understand the cause of your symptoms and provide a clear plan to help you move with confidence.

Many people think orthotics are only for flat feet, but they can be beneficial for a wide range of foot and lower limb conditions.

At Kin Body & Sole, orthotics are sometimes used as part of a personalised treatment plan to help reduce strain, improve comfort, and support foot function.
Orthotics work by altering how forces are distributed through the foot, helping to reduce excessive stress on certain tissues.

However, orthotics are rarely a magic fix. The best outcomes often come from combining them with:

- Appropriate footwear
- Strengthening exercises
- Activity modification
- Professional podiatry care

That's why an assessment is so important. The right orthotic for one person may not be right for another.
At Kin Body & Sole, we assess the whole picture before recommending treatment.

Do You Really Need Orthotics?

Orthotics are designed to support and improve foot function, helping to reduce excessive strain on muscles, tendons, and joints. For some people, they can be an effective part of managing foot and lower limb pain.

The important thing to remember is that orthotics should be tailored to the individual. What works for one person may not work for another. Sometimes simple changes such as footwear advice, exercises, or activity modifications may be just as important.

At Kin Body & Sole, we focus on finding the right solution for your feet, not just prescribing orthotics. Book an appointment and let's find out what's best for you.
