It is always a pleasure to share the nuances of Head & Neck Surgery with postgraduate trainees and practicing surgeons.

Had a wonderful academic session at VSSIMSAR, Burla, where I demonstrated Neck Dissection and PMMC flap harvesting on cadavers, highlighting key anatomical landmarks and surgical pearls. The session also included videos of scarless neck robotic thyroid surgery, showcasing the evolving role of remote-access robotic techniques in thyroid surgery.

Teaching, learning, and exchanging experiences with enthusiastic colleagues and trainees remain among the most rewarding aspects of our profession.

My sincere thanks to the organizers and faculty of VSSIMSAR, Burla, for their kind invitation, warm hospitality, and for making this academic interaction a memorable one.

Oral Cancer Starts Like THIS… And Most People Ignore It.

A mouth ulcer that doesn’t heal, unusual white or red patches, difficulty swallowing, or a lump in the mouth or neck could be early warning signs of oral cancer.

Many people dismiss these symptoms as minor problems and delay seeking medical advice. However, if any ulcer, patch, or swelling persists for more than 2 weeks, it is important to get it evaluated by a specialist.

Early detection can significantly improve treatment outcomes and save lives.

An enriching weekend dedicated to head and neck cancer awareness — starting with a press meet with my colleague, Dr Ramdip Ray, in Guwahati and followed by a wonderful interactive CME in Shillong on contemporary management of head and neck cancers. Grateful for the enthusiastic participation, insightful discussions, and collective commitment towards improving cancer awareness and quality cancer care across the Northeast. A mouth ulcer that refuses to heal is not something to ignore. 🚨

Many people assume it’s “normal” or caused by stress, but sometimes a persistent ulcer can be a warning sign of a serious underlying condition — including premalignant or cancerous changes.

⚠️ Warning signs to watch for:
• Ulcer lasting more than 2–3 weeks
• Pain or burning sensation
• White or red patches
• Difficulty eating or swallowing
• Bleeding or growth around the ulcer

Early diagnosis can make all the difference. Don’t ignore what your body is trying to tell you.
