University of Colombo Hosts Delegation from The Islamia University of Bahawalpur under the Pak-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Programme. 🇵🇰🤝🇱🇰
The University of Colombo continues to expand its global footprint through strategic international partnerships. 30th March 2026, Vice Chancellor Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake received Dr Ayesha Bashir, Head of the Department of Physical Therapy at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, Pakistan. The meeting was also attended by Professor Chathuranga Ranasinghe, Head, Department of Allied Health Sciences and Dr KRM Chandrathilaka, Senior Lecturer in Physiotherapy from the Faculty of Medicine.
Dr Bashir visited the Department of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, as part of the “Pak-Sri Lanka Higher Education Cooperation Programme”, a significant bilateral initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of higher education through institutional collaboration. The dialogue centred on sharing best practices in physiotherapy curriculum development and clinical training, identifying shared research interests in physiotherapy and exploring future exchange opportunities for students, staff and post-graduate researchers.
This visit underscores the University’s commitment to fostering international academic networks that benefit both the local and regional healthcare landscapes. Both institutions expressed a strong interest in formalising future projects that will elevate the standard of physiotherapy education in South Asia.

𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽

The Basic Sciences Stream of the Department of Allied Health Sciences, in collaboration with the Centre for Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, successfully conducted a Workshop on Functional Anatomy for second-year Physiotherapy students on 16th March 2026 at Lecture Hall 2, UCFM Tower.

The workshop was conducted by Dr. Romain Perera, Lecturer in Human Anatomy at University College London, United Kingdom. The session focused on understanding the functional application of anatomical knowledge in physiotherapy practice, particularly in relation to movement and musculoskeletal function.

The workshop provided an engaging learning experience and helped students strengthen their clinical understanding of anatomy while also supporting the academic staff in further developing teaching and learning activities in anatomy.

The Physiotherapy Students Welfare Society, in collaboration with the Centre for Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, successfully conducted the workshop “A Comprehensive Guide to Therapeutic Kinesiology Taping” on 12th February 2026 at the Skills Lab, Level 11, UCFM Tower.

The session was conducted by Mr. Kaveera Senanayake, Lecturer in Physiotherapy, focusing on the principles and clinical applications of kinesiology taping in musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Participants received hands-on training on key taping techniques, enhancing their practical physiotherapy skills.

A total of 72 students participated, making the workshop highly interactive and beneficial for their clinical skill development.
