🏀❤️🖤National Volunteer Week – Thank You, Team! 🖤❤️🏀
It takes a village to get our players on the court and performing – and wow, what a village we have!
This week, we’re celebrating the incredible volunteers who make Canterbury Wheelchair Basketball possible. There are so many of you (apologies to anyone we miss – you know who you are!), but we want to shine a light on:
⭐ Richard Paige – a huge shoutout for years of unwavering support. You’ve given so much, and we can’t thank you enough.
⭐ Our amazing committee: Alanna Peck, Amy Day, Cynthia Endicott-Davies, Nathan Taylor, Chloe Peck, Graham Jenks, Adam Glubb, Katie Bourke, Liam Keenan – you keep our wheels turning.
⭐ John Weisser – a massive contributor behind the scenes.
⭐ Roly Crichton & Travis Moffat – our coaches who have filled the gaps this year.
⭐ Evan Clulee for your mentorship and support of our young and beginning players. Sage advice and guidance from a Paralympian isn’t common.
The sheer number of people we’re thanking shows just how much volunteer mahi it takes to keep our players and club rolling. We are super grateful for every single one of you. ♿🏀💪🏽🙌🏽

🏀 Canterbury Rollars – Off to Whangārei! 🏀

On the weekend of June 20 & 21, your Canterbury Rollars will be hitting the court for the first round of the Wheelchair Basketball New Zealand National League in Whangārei. 🔥

We’ll have two competitive teams taking on the B Division with selections based on our preliminary classifications. This means the squads are very balanced and ready to battle. Your squads are:

Canterbury Blaze:
Kyle Edicott-Davies, Dylan Moore, Chloe Peck, Jeremy Taylor, Adam Glubb, Nathan Taylor, Finn Richardson

Canterbury Rollar B's:
Millie Oram, Eli Findlay, Tom Worthington, Liam Keenan, Troy Washington, Matt Vernick

A huge thank you to the Kiwi Gaming Foundation for their generous grant – getting us to Whangārei wouldn’t be possible without your support. 🙌

Meanwhile, several of our A Division players will be combining with athletes from the Northland Wheelchair Basketball Team and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater to compete in the A Division.

The tournament is hosted by Parafed Northland and supported by Tlc4u2 Limited and tips off at McKay Stadium Kensington

Let’s go, Rollars! 💪♿🏀
We’ll keep you posted from up north.

Great recognition for our home court partners! Community impact for us is having a dedicated place to play, train, store chairs and host tournaments. NC Sports and MainPower Stadium provide this for our players and Rollars whānau. Congratulations to everyone at NC Sports & thank you for your continued support of wheelchair basketball in Canterbury.

Every training session is another step closer to Whangārei and the National Tournament.

The Canterbury Rollers are putting in the hard work, pushing each other to be better, stronger, and more united every time we hit the court. Success isn’t built on game day. It’s built in the early starts, the tough sessions, and the commitment to the team when nobody is watching.

We’re more than teammates. We’re a community that supports, encourages, and challenges each other to reach new heights.

Whangārei, we’re coming ready to give it everything we’ve got. 🏀💪

A huge thank you to Fermin Wingerter 🇦🇷 for rolling with us on Tuesday night!

Fermin just graduated with a degree in finance from Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs and is now focused on chasing a spot at the 2028 Paralympics with Argentina at upcoming IWBF tournaments — and he has still found time to help our crew prep for the Wheelchair Basketball NZ nationals. Different countries, different levels, but the same drive: to always improve.

Fermin challenged our senior players and shared his passion, knowledge and experience to inspire our young guns. We are so grateful to him and his family for coming down to train and share with us.

Argentina Los Lobos 🇦🇷🐺are now our second favourite team now right behind our Roller Blacks 🇳🇿
