The New York State Department of Health is pleased to announce the release of two new annual reports, summarizing the work, reach, and impact of the New York State Breast, Cervical, and Colorectal Cancer Services Program (CSP) in 2023 and 2024. The CSP is a safety-net program providing education, outreach, and cancer screening and diagnostic services across the state. The program operates through a statewide network of contractors (health systems, community-based organizations, and local health departments), participating health care providers, and laboratories.

These legislatively mandated reports include a summary of activities conducted for cancer screening promotion, education and outreach, and clinical outcomes, notably the number of New Yorkers screened and diagnosed with breast, cervical, or colorectal cancer through the program, and those enrolled in the Medicaid Cancer Treatment Program (MCTP).

Key findings from the report include:

🔵Over 22,000 clients served annually
🔵More than 92,000 screenings and over 18,000 diagnostic tests provided over the two years
🔵A total of 920 adults diagnosed with cancer or a pre-cancerous condition
🔵An average of 676 clients enrolled or recertified each year for cancer treatment through Medicaid

Thousands of New Yorkers count on the Cancer Services Program for lifesaving cancer screening and diagnostic testing every year. The CSP is outcome driven, providing a critical safety net for those without access to health care.

This weekend our outreach coordinator, Laisa, was privileged to table at the “Check-Up From the Neck Up” Speaker Series sponsored by Our Village Services at the Connect Center in Cohoes.

In addition to four incredible speakers, the day offered health screenings and provided a space for local entrepreneurs to share their products and connect with the community, all while focusing on creating an environment where women felt supported, empowered, and inspired.

Laisa had the opportunity to speak with many attendees about cancer prevention and screening, but what mattered most was the chance to have genuine conversations and build meaningful connections.

Days like this, that uplift and strengthen, are why our team feels so fortunate to do the work we do.
