Roberta has been practicing yoga since 1988 and teaching yoga since 2004. She has trained under master yoga teachers Patricia Walden, Father Joe Pereira, Zoë Stewart, Sri H.S. She completed a two year Iyengar training program with Peentz Dubble, June 2017. Roberta studied yoga at the Ramamani Iyengar Yoga Memorial Institute in Pune, India during June 2011, February 2014 and attended Abhijata's 2-w

eek intensive in Pune, India, December 2016 and attended the BKS Iyengar Centenary Celebration taught by Geeta and Prashant Iyengar in December 2018. She completed training and certification with Elise Browning Miller as a 'Yoga for Scoliosis' instructor. She completed a 500 hour Hatha Yoga Certification program with AURA Wellness Center and is registered with Yoga Alliance as a E-RYT 500. She has been a Certified Meditation Teacher since June 2007 and has been an Usui Reiki Practitioner since 1989. Roberta teaches beginners to advanced yoga practitioners. She also works with individuals who have physical challenges, specifically individuals with Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease, scoliosis and amputations. Roberta's Personal Practice Philosophy: Health issues have changed and deepened my practice. You will see many photos of me using a variety of props. This practice simultaneously targets muscle groups across the entire posterior chain (the back body). Because the ropes support a portion of weight while gravity pulls you at an angle, the muscular engagement shifts between active contraction and deep elongation.

Several muscle groups must work together during this practice:

The Erector Spinae: These muscles run parallel to the spine (from the neck to the tailbone) and must contract deeply to hold the extension against gravity. This builds endurance and helps correct postural imbalances.

The Gluteus Maximus & Medius: The glutes engage to keep the pelvis lifted and aligned with your torso.

The Hamstrings: The back of the thighs must engage firmly to keep your knees straight.

"Women's breathing capacity is less than men's. Females have a greater exertion than males, in opening the chest. Emotional disturbances, tensions, are greater for women than men, although women's nerves are stronger than men. For women, mental disturbances will show up in the lungs. For men, emotional tension becomes mental tension and it affects the brain; like a paralysis of the brain. Women's ribs and intercostal muscles are more tender. The structure of the female body makes women breathe less than she is capable of. Men are less sensitive this way."
