Carla Deazle is a native New Yorker but has been a resident
of Northern Virginia for the past two years. She began her
journey with food at the young age of seven. At age seven,
she recognized her love for food, taste, and healthy eating. Carla has been an educator and administrator for many years
and has earned a doctorate in the field of education. In addition to education, her culinary and heal

th aspirations
are sincere and she seeks to heal through wholesome eating. She completed both her Basic Intensive Chef Training and
Culinary Nutrition Certification through the Natural
Gourmet Institute in New York which is now a part of the
Institute of Culinary Education (ICE). She is available for 1:1 healing sessions to assess
your health goals and curate a meal plan for you that will
help you heal through food. In your 1:1 sessions with Carla,
you should expect to feel encouraged and gain enthusiasm
toward your healing journey. Carla hopes to be your

Lentil and Kale Stew Recipe
Ingredients:
-1 Cup of washed and chopped Kale (Tuscan Kale preferred but any kind fine)
-1 Cup of dry lentils (I used red lentils for this dish but any dried lentil fine)
-1 Tablespoon of tomato paste
-1 chopped fresh garlic clove
-1 Tablespoon of chopped ginger root (substituting ginger powder is fine)
-1 ½ Cups of water

1 Tablespoon of olive oil. ½ Teaspoon of olive oil for drizzling (optional)
-Red pepper flakes (optional)
-Sea salt
-Ground pepper
-1 teaspoon of curry powder
-1 teaspoon of cumin powder
-1 teaspoon of onion powder
-1 teaspoon of chili powder

Lentil Stew Recipe:
1-Heat 1 Tablespoon of olive oil in a medium pot over low to medium heat

2- Add spices, ginger and garlic to the oil and stir to ensure garlic and ginger infuses with the spices

3-Add lentils and coat beans with the spices, oil, ginger and garlic

4-Mix in tomato paste

5-Add in water and sprinkle beans with sea salt and pepper. Note: Water should cover the beans

6-Increase heat to high to bring beans to a boil

7-Once beans are brought to a boil, lower heat to simmer and cook on low/simmer for 20 minutes

8-Add in chopped kale and mix. May sprinkle more sea salt and pepper. Continue to cook beans until tender which should be an additional 15-20 minutes

*Optional: Can top lentils with red pepper flakes and/or can drizzle ½ teaspoon of olive oil
