🏆 BEST FACIALS. 🏆 BEST SPA.

🍿“There is no such thing as natural beauty.”

Somebody said that in a Louisiana beauty parlor in 1989. I say it as a joke, because natural is very much the point around here. We’re just helping it along a little.

Anyway…Bene took first place in TWO categories at this year’s Best of ATX, and then came in second for both Small Business Owner and Locally Owned Business. Four placements, in a city where you can’t drive three blocks without passing a spa, med spa, or skin care studio.

New this year, they announced everything live at the party. So I found out standing in a room full of people I admire, holding a drink, completely unprepared. Highly recommend.

I didn’t win this. Y’all did. Every one of you who opened an email, clicked through, and voted for a small skincare studio off a list of hundreds. I still can’t quite believe you did that.

Thank you Austin Monthly Magazine and Austin American-Statesman for throwing a hell of a party. 🤎

Some week soon, you'll wake up to a cool morning, walk into full Austin heat by noon, then sit under blasting AC for the rest of the day. Your skin doesn't get a memo about which season it's actually in.

That whiplash is real, and it's specifically an Austin problem. Indoor air dries out just enough while outdoor heat and UV haven't let up at all, so your skin ends up trying to hold onto moisture and defend against the sun in the same afternoon.

Somewhere around week ten of an Austin summer, skin stops behaving like one thing.

You're shiny by noon and tight by evening. The moisturizer feels like too much and not enough. Nothing's technically wrong. Your skin has been compensating for three straight months, and the routine you built in spring isn't answering the question anymore.

Niacinamide is one of the more useful ingredients for this particular stretch, because it works on both halves of the problem at once.
