Did you catch yesterdayβs Joyful Hour? We had a great chat with Amber Frauenholtz, Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and Parental Leave Coach, where we discussed the importance of the Core Nutrition Principles for Postpartum.
Letβs do a quick recap : Postpartum is a vulnerable, transitional time where the body requires significant raw materials (proteins, amino acids, fats, carbohydrates, and nutrients) to heal, produce energy, and support hormonal shifts like breastfeeding and eventual cycle return. To simplify meal planning, Amber recommends a clockwise template for balancing plates : prioritize protein (palm-sized), fill the bottom half with fiber-rich carbohydrates (fruits, vegetables, starches), include healthy fats, and leave room for cravings.
This doesnβt mean you need to prepare a 5-course meal everyday, because that sounds time consuming and expensive. It is way simpler than that, start by ingredient prepping : combine simple, high-quality convenience foods (e.g., pre-cooked meats, frozen vegetables, microwaveable rice) to meet nutritional needs without wasting excessive time in the kitchen. Anything works as long as it is consistent! It is generally recommended to eat every two to four hours to maintain stable blood sugar and energy levels. Fasting is not recommended for postpartum women as it can negatively impact hormonal health and thyroid function. Want to keep learning?
