On Thursday, August 27, 2026, the LAFP hosted the Southwest Louisiana Area Grand Rounds and Member Social at Pat’s of Henderson. On Wednesday evening the LAFP Foundation was excited to partner with the FMIG at UQ Ochsner Clinical School to host the Greater New Orleans Joint FMIG Social! Students from UQ Ochsner Clinical School, LSU Health New Orleans, and Tulane SOM, along with our family medicine residency programs in the Greater New Orleans area, enjoyed an evening of fun and games at Loft 18 in Metairie. LAFP Congratulates LAFP Member and Chief Resident at Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program, Dr. Shantasia Jackson, as the recipient of the 2026 AAFP Award for Excellence in Graduate Medical Education.

This award recognizes outstanding family medicine residents who demonstrate excellence in leadership, civic involvement, patient care and dedication to the principles of family medicine. Recipients are selected among the top-performing residents nationwide.

As part of the honor, the Dr. Jackson will receive a $2,500 scholarship from the American Academy of Family Physicians, complimentary registration to the 2026 AAFP Family Medicine Experience, round-trip economy airfare and three nights of hotel accommodations.

Louisiana Attends AAFP FUTURE Conference!

Louisiana once again showcased our family medicine pride to Kansas City for the AAFP FUTURE Conference. FUTURE is the largest student recruitment event of the year. This year was no exception. The LAFP Foundation in partnership with Ochsner Health and our Louisiana Family Medicine Residency Programs hosted recruitment efforts to promote our residency programs at the national level.

The FUTURE Conference offers students and residents the chance to explore residency options, meet program leaders, and engage with the latest in healthcare education and resources.

Thanks to our EXCLUSIVE sponsor, Ochsner Health, the LAFP Foundation was able to send our full delegation of student and resident delegates to attend the Student and Resident Congress Meetings held in conjunction with FUTURE.
