That middle of the night pump can be so overwhelming.

We regularly get asked about various breastfeeding products… and the haakaa is consistently one of them.

It’s on like every registry list you’ll find on the Internet.

but I’m here to tell you it’s not worth the hype.

I much prefer the Boon Trove or Elvie curve. They sit in your bra and you don’t have to use the pump feature when using it. You can just “catch” your leaking breastmilk if you prefer (but also have the option pump with suction)

I always caution moms that they need to use these with caution, though, as overuse can cause an oversupply!

One thing I would scream to pregnant moms from the rooftop is:

Frequent feeding is normal!

Newborns are designed to nurse often, especially in the early weeks.

It’s great for your baby, and your milk supply🤍

When would we worry about frequent feeding? If baby doesn’t seem satisfied after the feeds or if feeds seem like they never end.

If you want to know what’s normal and what’s not before you have your baby, take our breastfeeding class.

A ni**le shield is one of the most common devices given to mothers in the hospital right after delivery.

The reasons vary, but ultimately, I have found the most common cause is the lack of time for hospital staff to adequately help breastfeeding moms with latching.

They should not be used unless under the direct supervision of a lactation consultant, ideally an out-patient consultant they have established care with and have regular access to.

Ni**le shields can be a great tool, but they also have the ability to negatively impact breastfeeding the breastfeeding relationship🥺

We help mom‘s ditch the ni**le shield all the time so comment SHIELD if you need help🫶🏻
