Lately, I’m seeing too many things in AAC world that don’t work for families. If you’re an AAC SLP or someone working with an AAC user, shifting to a family-centered model is going to be life changing for your user. Our families deserve to be supported. Period. AAC needs to work for the family. Clinical knowledge is only worth something if it’s applied in a meaningful way. As clinicians, we NEED to shift to seeing things from the perspectives of our families. This mindset is going to be the number one predictor of AAC success.
