🎒 **Back to School Means Back to a Healthy Sleep Routine**

As summer winds down, shifting back to earlier bedtimes and wake-up times can be difficult—especially for children and teens. In recognition of **Student Sleep Health Week, September 14–18, 2026**, now is a great time to help your family rebuild healthy sleep habits.

Start adjusting bedtime and wake time by 15–30 minutes every few nights. Keep weekend schedules consistent, limit evening caffeine, turn off screens at least an hour before bed, and create a calm bedtime routine. School-aged children generally need 9–12 hours of sleep, while teenagers need 8–10 hours.

If your child or teen has been prescribed CPAP therapy, make it a supportive part of the routine:

💙 Let them help choose a comfortable mask
💙 Explain how CPAP can help them feel more rested and ready for school
💙 Praise consistent use instead of making it feel like a punishment
💙 Encourage CPAP during every sleep—including naps and sleepovers
💙 Contact their care team about leaks, discomfort, anxiety, or resistance

Never change a child’s prescribed pressure or discontinue therapy without consulting their healthcare provider. With patience, encouragement, and the right equipment, CPAP can become a normal part of bedtime.

Need help with pediatric CPAP equipment, mask fit, or replacement supplies? Contact Everything CPAP in Boise or Nampa.

😴 Could Your Morning Headache Be a Sign of Sleep Apnea?

Do you wake up with headaches that seem to disappear later in the day?

While there are many possible causes, morning headaches can be a common symptom of obstructive sleep apnea. When your breathing repeatedly stops during sleep, your brain and body may not get enough oxygen, leaving you feeling tired, foggy, and with a headache when you wake up.

Other signs of sleep apnea include:
😴 Loud snoring
💤 Waking up gasping or choking
🥱 Excessive daytime sleepiness
🧠 Difficulty concentrating or memory problems
❤️ High blood pressure

The good news? CPAP therapy is one of the most effective treatments for obstructive sleep apnea and may help reduce symptoms such as morning headaches when they're related to untreated sleep apnea.

At Everything CPAP, we're here to help you succeed with your therapy. Whether you need a better-fitting mask, replacement supplies, or help improving your comfort, our experienced team is ready to help.

💙 Don't ignore what your mornings are trying to tell you. Better sleep can lead to better days.

🏥😴 Having Surgery? Don't Forget to Talk About Your CPAP Therapy.
If you use a CPAP machine and have an upcoming surgery, don't stop your CPAP therapy on your own. Whether you're having an outpatient procedure or a major operation, your sleep apnea diagnosis is important information for your surgical team.

Before Your Surgery be sure to tell your:
👨‍⚕️ Surgeon
💉 Anesthesiologist
🩺 Primary Care Provider
😴 Sleep Specialist

Discuss:
✅ Your diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA)
✅ Your current CPAP pressure settings
✅ Whether you use CPAP every night
✅ If you'll need to bring your CPAP machine to the hospital or surgery center
✅ When it is safe to resume CPAP after your procedure

WHY DOES IT MATTER?
🩺 General anesthesia, sedation, and pain medications can relax the muscles that keep your airway open, increasing the risk of breathing problems in people with sleep apnea.
🚑 If you've had intubation, surgery involving your nose, mouth, throat, or facial structures, or procedures affecting your airway, your surgeon may provide special instructions regarding when and how to restart CPAP therapy.

❓ Should You Stop Using CPAP? 🚫 Usually, no.
For most patients, CPAP should be continued until surgery and restarted as soon as your surgeon or anesthesia team determines it is safe. Never stop or restart therapy without following your healthcare team's instructions.

🏥 Questions to Ask Before Surgery
✔️ Should I bring my CPAP machine with me?
✔️ Will I use CPAP in the recovery room or overnight?
✔️ Will my pain medications affect my breathing?
✔️ Will my surgery require temporary changes to my CPAP therapy?
✔️ When can I safely resume my normal treatment at home?

💙 A conversation before surgery can help support a safer recovery and a better night's sleep afterward. Learn more at: https://www.everythingcpap.com/

🤰💙 Pregnant and Using CPAP? Here's What You Should Know.
As your body changes through each trimester, your CPAP therapy may need a few adjustments to keep both you and your baby healthy.

🌸 First Trimester
☑️ Continue using your CPAP every night if you've been diagnosed with sleep apnea.
☑️ Morning sickness and nasal congestion may make wearing your mask more challenging. A heated humidifier can often improve comfort.
☑️ If your mask no longer feels comfortable, ask about alternative styles or sizes.

🌼 Second Trimester
☑️ As your pregnancy progresses, weight changes and increased blood volume can make sleep apnea symptoms more noticeable.
☑️ Sleep on your left side whenever possible to help improve circulation to your baby and reduce pressure on major blood vessels.
☑️ Side sleeping may require a CPAP pillow or mask adjustments to reduce leaks.

🌻 Third Trimester
☑️ Your growing baby can place additional pressure on your diaphragm, making breathing during sleep more difficult.
☑️ Continue sleeping on your side rather than flat on your back.
☑️ If your CPAP therapy no longer feels effective, don't stop using it—contact your sleep specialist.
☑️ Pressure settings may need to be reviewed based on your changing needs.

👶 Why CPAP Matters During Pregnancy - Treating sleep apnea during pregnancy may help:
💙 Improve oxygen levels for both mom and baby
💙 Reduce excessive daytime fatigue
💙 Support healthy blood pressure
💙 Lower the risk of pregnancy complications associated with untreated obstructive sleep apnea, such as gestational hypertension and preeclampsia
💙 Promote healthier sleep, which benefits your overall pregnancy and recovery

💙 Healthy sleep for Mom. Healthy beginnings for Baby.

🌾🤧 Idaho Allergy Season Is Here—Don't Forget Your CPAP Filters!

⚠️ August and September bring more than cooler mornings to Idaho. They also mark the peak of w**d pollen season, with sagebrush, ragw**d, tumblew**d, and pigw**d filling the air. Add in harvest dust, dry conditions, and seasonal wildfire smoke, and your CPAP system can collect airborne particles much faster than usual.

If you're using CPAP therapy, now is the perfect time to:
✅ Check your CPAP filter for dirt and discoloration.
✅ Replace disposable filters as recommended—or sooner if they appear dirty.
✅ Clean or replace reusable filters according to your manufacturer's guidelines.
✅ Clean your mask, tubing, and humidifier chamber regularly to help maintain clean airflow.

A clean filter helps:
💙 Improve the quality of the air you breathe each night.
😴 Support more comfortable, effective CPAP therapy.
🌬️ Reduce the amount of pollen, dust, and smoke particles entering your equipment.
⚙️ Help protect your CPAP machine from unnecessary wear caused by clogged filters.

Don't let Idaho's late-summer air affect your sleep. If it's been a while since you've changed your filters, stop by Everything CPAP. We'll help you find the right replacement filters and supplies to keep your therapy performing at its best all allergy season long.

🔥😷 Wildfire Smoke Doesn't Just Affect Your Lungs—It Can Affect Your Sleep, Too.
As wildfire smoke continues to impact many areas of Idaho, it's important to remember that poor air quality can make it harder to breathe comfortably at night—especially if you have sleep apnea.

Smoke-filled air may:
🌫️ Irritate your nose, throat, and airways
😴 Increase congestion, making CPAP therapy less comfortable
💨 Dry out your air passages, even with humidification
🛏️ Reduce sleep quality and leave you feeling less rested

If you use a CPAP machine, now is a great time to give it some extra attention.

CPAP Tips During Wildfire Season:
✅ Check and replace your CPAP filters more frequently if they appear dirty.
✅ Clean your mask, tubing, and humidifier chamber regularly to remove smoke particles and dust.
✅ Use only distilled water in your humidifier and empty it daily.
✅ If your machine has been exposed to smoky conditions, inspect it carefully and contact us if you have questions.

Help Keep Smoke Out of Your Bedroom:
🏡 Keep windows and exterior doors closed during periods of poor air quality.
🌬️ Run your home's HVAC system with a clean, high-quality air filter.
💨 Use a HEPA air purifier in your bedroom if possible.
🚪 Seal gaps around windows and doors to reduce smoke infiltration.
📱 Check local air quality reports before opening windows for fresh air.

If your CPAP isn't feeling as comfortable as usual, don't stop your therapy. Our team is here to help with replacement filters, supplies, mask adjustments, and expert advice to keep you breathing easier—even during wildfire season.

📍 Stop by Everything CPAP or give us a call. We're here to help you sleep better, no matter what the air quality looks like outside.
