You’re doing the exercises. You’re putting in the work. But progress after surgery has slowed.

The next step depends on what’s holding you back.

Sometimes we need a more precise exercise to help you recruit a muscle. Sometimes electrical stimulation can support that contraction. Blood flow restriction training may help build strength when heavier loading isn’t appropriate. In selected cases, dry needling or instrument-assisted soft tissue work may help address pain or mobility restrictions.

These tools serve different purposes. Choosing one depends on your surgery, stage of healing, precautions, and what we find on assessment—not simply how many months have passed.

At Alpine Fit, we reassess the limitation and adjust the treatment accordingly.

Ten years ago, Alpine Fit’s physical therapist, cleaning crew, laundry department, and marketing team were all me.

Staff meetings were efficient.

I’d set up a table at gyms, answer questions, see patients, and wash the towels. This month, Alpine Fit turns ten.

There are more of us now—and more skill, knowledge, and collective intuition built through a decade of working with thousands of patients.

One thing I’ve worked to protect as we’ve grown: a full hour, one-to-one.

Because the first thing someone tells us is rarely everything we need to understand.

“My knee hurts” gets the appointment booked.

“I’ve started telling my friends I’m too busy to ski because I don’t trust it anymore” tells us what’s at stake.

That deserves time. So do the examination, the questions, and the explanation of what we think will help.

To everyone who has trusted us, referred a friend, or asked a question that made us think harder: thank you.

What’s something you’ve gotten back to—or tried for the first time—since working with Alpine Fit? I’d love to hear.

You left with six exercises. Did you leave with an explanation?

Knowing what to do is useful. Understanding why it belongs in your plan helps you participate in your care.

Take “your glutes are weak.”

That may be a relevant finding. But it leaves a few questions unanswered: How does it relate to your symptoms? Is it the main issue or one contributor? What would improving it allow you to do?

A finding becomes useful when it helps guide a decision.

After a PT evaluation, you should have a working understanding of:
• What your therapist thinks is contributing—and what remains uncertain.
• Why you’re starting with this approach.
• What changes would suggest it’s helping.
• What would prompt a different approach or further evaluation.

An explanation doesn’t have to mean certainty. “Here’s our working theory, and here’s how we’ll reassess it” can be more useful than a confident label.

At Alpine Fit, our full-hour, one-to-one appointments give us time to connect your history, examination, and goals—and talk through what those findings mean for you.

Your home program should come with more than a rep count.

PT spotlight on Dr. Jared!

A seasoned clinician, Jared joined Alpine Fit in March and quickly earned his stripes working with some of Boulder’s top distance runners and a nationally competitive powerlifter.

An avid athlete himself, he understands what it means to have something you love sidelined. You’ll know right away that he’s going to give it to you straight—and that he’s invested in getting you back out there.

Jared pairs clinical excellence with a kind, grounded demeanor. He explains what he’s finding, what needs work, and how you’ll work on it together.

Alongside his doctorate in physical therapy, he’s a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), bringing expertise in strength, power, and athletic performance to rehabilitation. His care includes individualized exercise, hands-on treatment, and dry needling when appropriate.

He also specializes in golf performance, helping athletes build the mobility, strength, and control to play at their best—and addressing the pain that’s been keeping them off the course.

You don’t have to compete at a high level to appreciate that level of care. Whatever you’re working toward, Jared is on your team to get there.

We’re proud to have him at Alpine Fit.

Your workout has more plot twists than your favorite series.

But is it making you stronger?

Variety can keep exercise interesting. It can also make progress surprisingly difficult to track. If the exercise, weight, repetitions, and tempo change every session, what are you comparing?

Research on exercise selection suggests that planned variation can support strength and muscle development. Constant, random changes may be less useful. The evidence is limited—not a reason to declare one perfect program.

In the clinic, a familiar exercise gives us something valuable: a comparison.

Can you move the same weight with more control? Complete more repetitions under the same conditions? Tolerate a range that previously brought on symptoms?

Those are different kinds of progress. Each can help us decide what to change next.

Take a split squat. Adding weight, increasing depth, or introducing speed creates a different challenge. We choose based on what someone needs for the court, the slopes, or the stairs—not because the exercise has gotten old.

Keep the variety you enjoy. Keep enough consistency to know what’s working.

Before replacing an exercise, ask: Have I stopped progressing—or have I just stopped being entertained?

You can put your palms on the floor. Your hamstrings would still like to file a complaint.

How can you be flexible and feel so tight?

A forward fold shows how far you can reach. It doesn’t tell us where that movement comes from. A very mobile lower back can contribute generously while the hamstrings remain relatively restricted.

And sometimes a muscle feels tight because it’s overworked—not because it needs more length.

That distinction matters, especially with hypermobility. Repeatedly stretching the areas that already move easily may miss the area that needs attention.

At Alpine Fit, we look at where movement occurs, how you control it, and what brings on the symptoms. The findings might point toward targeted stretching, progressive strengthening, or changing how you perform a movement.

“Stretch more” and “never stretch” are both remarkably confident answers to a question we haven’t finished asking.

Being flexible alone doesn’t mean you have a hypermobility disorder. But if flexibility comes with recurring pain or injuries, it deserves a closer look.

If you’ve heard the laughter coming from Sarah’s treatment room, you’ve already met part of what makes her so good at this.

Dr. Sarah brings clinical expertise, an infectious smile, and a real investment in the person in front of her. She wants to understand what’s been difficult, what you’ve already tried, and what you’re hoping to get back to.
Her work with hypermobility and EDS helps patients make sense of bodies that can feel unpredictable—building strength, improving joint control, and finding an approach that fits.

And she roots for her patients. Every one of them. Through the frustrating stretches and the moments when something finally clicks.

We’re proud of the care she provides and grateful for the warmth she brings to Alpine Fit. Sarah, we are thrilled to have you as part of the AF Team!

Pain’s gone. Why keep going to PT?
Honestly? Maybe you shouldn’t.
But “it doesn’t hurt today” is a pretty low bar for deciding you’re done—especially if the run, hike, lift, or game you came in for is still a question mark.
So when is it time to stop? We break down what to consider before your next appointment.

A few weeks before a big race… every step hurt.

Shin pain during runs. Pain lingering throughout the day. Not exactly the build-up you want heading into something important.

That’s when she reached out to Alpine Fit.

With a focused plan—combining dry needling and hands-on manual therapy—we were able to calm things down quickly, restore load tolerance, and get her back to running with confidence.

Race day? Started strong. Finished pain-free.

What also mattered: we made it work in a tight window—fitting her in last-minute and keeping her updated on cancellations so we didn’t lose momentum.

This is what the right care, at the right time, can do.

Not just symptom relief—real, meaningful change when it counts.

If something’s been lingering (especially with an event on the horizon), don’t wait until it sidelines you.
