Have you ever wondered how clinical trials actually work?

Maybe you've heard terms like eligibility, exclusion criteria, or stem cell-derived islet therapies and thought, "I'd love to understand what all of that actually means."

That's exactly why we're hosting this free virtual discussion.

This is not a clinical trial and not a recruitment event. It's simply an opportunity to better understand:

✔️ How clinical trials work
✔️ How eligibility is determined
✔️ What exclusion criteria means
✔️ How to find a study/trial
✔️ Where stem cell-derived islet therapies and regenerative medicine research stand today

We'll be joined by Megan Rodriguez, a student researcher at UC Santa Barbara and fellow of the UCSB COMPASS Program funded by California's Stem Cell Agency (CIRM).

It started with a simple idea:

What if adults living with type 1 diabetes had a place to connect, share stories, and feel understood?

What happened next surprised us.

Friendships formed. Communities grew. People drove hours to meet others who finally “got it.”

What began with a handful of people has grown into something much bigger.

Turns out a lot of us were looking for the same thing. 💙

"Is there anything for adults with type 1 diabetes in North Carolina?"

I've been hearing versions of that question for months.

People looking for connection.
People looking for others who understand.
People who are tired of feeling like they have to do this alone.

Then a few people in the Triangle area reached out.

One conversation led to another. A small group came together. And now we're excited to launch the very first Grownup T1Ds meetup in the Triangle.

Because type 1 diabetes doesn't end in childhood.

And neither should support.

Whether you were diagnosed as a child or an adult, whether you've lived with T1D for 5 years or 50, you're welcome here.

Could Pensacola be next?

One of the most rewarding parts of building Grownup T1Ds has been watching adults living with type 1 diabetes step forward to create connection where it didn’t exist before. Especially for midlife and older T1Ds.

We’re currently exploring the launch of a Pensacola chapter and would love to gauge interest from local adults living with T1D.

These aren’t one-time events. They’re ongoing communities where people can build friendships, share experiences, support one another, and connect with others who understand the realities of living with type 1 diabetes.

We’ve seen firsthand how meaningful these connections can be, and we’re excited about the possibility of bringing that same sense of belonging to Pensacola.

If you’re local and interested, we’d love to hear from you.

Because no one living with T1D should feel isolated.

New York City, you exceeded every expectation. 💙

Our inaugural NYC GrownUpT1Ds meetup was filled with smiles, laughter, meaningful conversations, and an overwhelming sense of connection.

Watching adults living with type 1 diabetes find others who truly understand the day-to-day realities of this condition is something that never gets old.

We’re especially grateful for the 5 incredible chapter leaders who stepped up to make this happen. Their willingness to give their time and energy is helping create something bigger than a single meetup—it’s building a lasting community.

The feedback we’ve received has been heartwarming, and the excitement for what’s next is already growing.

We’re just getting started.

Because no one should do T1D alone.

One of the things we value most about a great healthcare provider is the ability to combine expertise with genuine human connection.

Recently I asked my endocrinologist, Dr. David Ahn, if he’d be willing to answer a few rapid-fire questions.
Without hesitation, he replied, “Okay, let’s go.”

We discussed diabetes technology, common misconceptions about type 1 diabetes, and what innovations he’s most excited to see in the future.
We even ended with a lighthearted question about something his patients might be surprised to learn about him. 😂

Conversations like these help make healthcare feel a little more approachable and remind us that strong patient-provider relationships matter.

Atlanta, this is just the beginning. 💙

We’re excited to announce the kickoff of the Atlanta chapter of Grownup T1Ds!

Join us for an afternoon of conversation, connection, laughter, and meeting people who truly get it.

New York City… we’re almost there. 🎉

This Saturday marks the very first Grownup T1Ds meetup in NYC, and the response has been incredible.

Adults living with type 1 diabetes from across the area are coming together to connect with people who truly get it. The alarms. The carb counts. The mental load. The victories. The challenges. All of it.

And this isn’t a one-time event.

We’re building an ongoing community for adults living with type 1 diabetes in New York City, with future meetups and opportunities to stay connected throughout the year.

If you’ve been thinking about coming, we’d love to meet you.

This Saturday is just the beginning. 💙

She spends her days caring for others.

As a nurse living with type 1 diabetes, she’s spent years helping patients navigate their own challenges.

But after attending one of our recent Southern California meetups, she shared something that reminded us why community matters.

“I loved being around other T1Ds that get it.”

“It’s like a big family where everybody speaks your language.”

Then she wrote:

“The love, support and empathy that I received was incredibly healing.”

That word stuck with us.

Healing.

Not because anyone gave medical advice.
Not because anyone solved diabetes.

But because she was surrounded by people who understood.

Sometimes the people caring for everyone else need support too.

Have you ever had a moment where another person with T1D just got it without you having to explain?
