She spends her days caring for others.

As a nurse living with type 1 diabetes, she’s spent years helping patients navigate their own challenges.

But after attending one of our recent Southern California meetups, she shared something that reminded us why community matters.

“I loved being around other T1Ds that get it.”

“It’s like a big family where everybody speaks your language.”

Then she wrote:

“The love, support and empathy that I received was incredibly healing.”

That word stuck with us.

Healing.

Not because anyone gave medical advice.
Not because anyone solved diabetes.

But because she was surrounded by people who understood.

Sometimes the people caring for everyone else need support too.

Have you ever had a moment where another person with T1D just got it without you having to explain?

South New Jersey, we had a mix of familiar faces and new ones around the table and somehow it felt like everyone belonged from the start.

Good conversations. Lots of laughs. Shared experiences. The kind of connection that happens when nobody has to explain the beeps, the burnout, or life with type 1.

Philly + South Jersey, this chapter is yours and it’s growing!
If you’ve been thinking about coming, stay tuned for the next meetup ✨

Adults are STILL being told they’re “too old” to develop type 1 diabetes.

And because of that, many are being misdiagnosed, dismissed, or diagnosed only after becoming dangerously sick.

What’s frustrating is that most conversations around type 1 diabetes screening and early detection still focus almost entirely on children and families while adults are often left out of the conversation.

Type 1 diabetes can happen at ANY age.

We hear these stories all the time from adults who struggled to get diagnosed or taken seriously.

I wrote about this issue for because this conversation needs more attention.

Adults living with type 1 diabetes are still being overlooked in conversations around screening and early detection.

Too many adults are being misdiagnosed as type 2 diabetes or told they’re “too old” to develop type 1.
Meanwhile, most screening campaigns and awareness efforts continue to focus heavily on children and families.

Type 1 diabetes does not stop happening after childhood.

At Grownup T1Ds we hear these stories constantly from adults diagnosed later in life and from people who spent months or years fighting to be taken seriously.

This has to change.

I wrote about why adults are still being missed when it comes to type 1 diabetes screening and why awareness around adult onset T1D urgently needs to catch up.

If you were diagnosed as an adult or initially misdiagnosed, share your experience below. These conversations matter.

T1D diagnosed in adulthood often presents differently than childhood-onset, creating major gaps in awareness, treatment and care. As screening programs expand and therapies like Tzield reshape the future of prevention, experts are increasingly examining whether this population has been overlooked in...

We may not have it all together.
But there’s something really powerful about being around people who understand this life without needing an explanation.
REAL connection, the kind that builds and lasts, and the kind you carry with you forever.
Together, we have it all. 💙

Insulin is expensive enough already… now I need a small loan just to afford the gas to go pick it up too? 😂

Love that for us.

Nothing says “healthcare” quite like calculating whether the trip to the pharmacy is worth the gas money.

Can we at least get reward points for surviving this economy with T1D? 😭
