Your hand is doing two jobs at once, and we only ever notice one of them.
There is the pressing, which is the part we think about. And underneath it there is the reading, because the skin of the palm and fingertips is packed with more sensory receptors than almost anywhere else on the body, which is why you can tell silk from cotton with your eyes closed, or feel someone’s breath change through a jumper.
Here is the part that matters. The harder you grip, the less you can feel, because the pressure floods your own sensation the way gripping anywhere in the body drowns out the finer signal. A practitioner who presses hard gets less information, not more.
A soft hand reads better.
