Hello October! The end of September was a whirlwind! I moved apartments, immediately caught a cold, cancelled travel plans to stay home and rest. Now I’m back to work, and nesting into my apartment, enjoying new walks along the Rivanna River and excited about the cooler weather.

When I go quiet over here it’s because I don’t have the bandwidth to post regularly. This account allows me to show up virtually, share authentically and be creative. And sometimes I just can’t keep it up!

August was a wild ride (anyone else?!) and as the summer schedule is shifting with folks returning from summer adventures and new students joining, the studio has been busy I’ve been focusing on rest and self care in my down time.

I do have some exciting things planned for this fall with some workshops on nervous system support in the works- so stay tuned!

This is your reminder that when things feel like they’re moving too fast you can always slow down. Even a few minutes stretching or lying down and feeling your breath reminds your body it’s ok to move at your pace.

5 years ago I opened the doors to Rooted Wellness & Pilates, a cozy studio where you can show up as your whole self. 1:1 Pilates and Somatic Experiencing sessions where we care for your body while also holding space for all the experiences your body holds.

I share pretty openly about my challenges navigating Lyme disease and honestly, even though I’m doing SO much better overall I’ve been in a slump this summer. Upper respiratory illness knocked me down a few months ago and I still haven’t returned to my baseline energy levels. As someone who’s struggled with chronic fatigue for years this feels hard for several reasons. I have been reminded of how adaptable Pilates is, and how even when I’ve felt my worst I was able to do Pilates because there’s so much lying down possible! Also, releasing tight muscles feels great so grab an acupressure ball and give yourself a release!

April was a doozy! I was sick for much of it then travel to meet my new niece last week.

This week I’ve been catching up on sleep and following my own advice to listen to my body. My body has wanted very little exercise and as much sleep and rest as possible and so I’ve listened to that. I know the gym will still be there when I’m ready.

Today I was craving some time on the reformer and was I started to move I felt my breath deepen and was reminded how good my body feels when I do Pilates. 😅

One of my favorite ways to tune into my body is to place a hand on my heart and a hand on my belly and notice my breath.

I like the way the contact of my hands feel, it makes me more aware of my body and my boundaries. Feeling the rise and fall of my breath under my hands helps me feel more tuned into my body in the moment.

Nervous system regulation doesn’t need to be complex and simple things can be helpful and supportive.
