Physicians who prioritize quality patient care must continuously evaluate their operational practices to determine care gaps or other room for improvement. The Greater Michigan Physician Network (GMPN) is proud to partner with physicians who participate in Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan’s Physician Group Incentive Program (PGIP) to not only help practices navigate changes to their existing processes but also offer incentive opportunities to recognize and reward physicians who are making tangible improvements to their care delivery practices.

Quality Metrics
Key performance indicators help evaluate how consistently patients are receiving recommended screenings, treatments, or other evidence-based care at individual practices. GMPN looks at quality metrics such as A1C control in diabetes patients or number of preventive breast cancer screenings to determine both areas of strong performance and opportunities for continued improvement. Participating physicians with consistently high rates of preventive care screenings or chronic disease control can access financial incentive opportunities beyond standard health plan contracts.

Evolving healthcare regulations and reimbursement policies deeply impact physicians’ day-to-day work delivering quality care to their patients. This year, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) introduced numerous proposed changes related to expanding accountable care participation, modernizing physician reimbursement, and optimizing reporting processes. These updates reflect a push for proactive healthcare practices that prevent rather than merely treat chronic illness.

Accountable Care Expansion
One of the primary goals of CMS’ recent proposals is increasing Accountable Care Organization (ACO) participation to improve patient care and lower healthcare costs. CMS reports in its recent July 2026 press release that patients receiving care from ACOs are more likely to receive preventative screenings and better able to manage chronic disease, making participation beneficial for patients and providers alike.
