CORE STRENGTH does not just happen in a sit up! And no matter the sport or discipline, core strength will not only enhance your overall power, but it is also injury prevention!
I recently began to start working on a Pro road racer who I am going to guess is 6’3” and can lay a bike down on its side going about 50 mph on a corner.
He has had damage done to his abdominals and didn’t realize he could continue to train the rest of the corset of muscles - the obliques, serratus, QL(low back). You can tell the athlete he is when he walks in the room, but he’s got some areas of vulnerability that core work will bring so much support. So of course we are on it, training his spine in all five planes of motion.
Now, take any equestrian sport and consider the lateral movement, forward movements, the stops and slides, sometimes happening all at once. As pictured, you can see this rider is having to rotate her pelvis into an anterior tilt strong and fast so this horse can do its job of movement without resistance from her on top. For many of us we also know good and well that a fast lateral movement is coming next and she will need to shift and brace at the same speed of motion under her.
Precision of both individuals gives them the best chance of performance, reflex and reaction SO THAT they can win and stay safe.
Know that there is more than a SIT up that will SET you up👍
