Just checking... šŸ‘€
Hopping on this trend again… this time doing it properly, with plenty of reminders because we care and, yes, we’re checking on you! šŸ«¶šŸ’Ÿ

Sometimes the thoughts that sound the most ā€œnormalā€ in diet culture are the ones worth checking in on.

- Maybe it’s feeling like you need to eat less today because you ate more yesterday.
- Maybe it’s seeing a smaller body as the ultimate sign that you’re doing well.
- Maybe it’s turning a bad body image day into a reason to cancel plans, change your body, or push yourself harder.
- Maybe exercise has quietly shifted from something that supports your body to something you feel like you have to do to make up for eating.

And sometimes, these things can look so ā€œhealthyā€ from the outside that it can be hard to recognize when they’re taking away from your relationship with food, movement, and your life. 🫠

A reminder: you don’t have to compensate for eating. You don’t have to earn rest. You don’t have to wait for hunger to become overwhelming before you’re ā€œallowedā€ to eat. And you certainly don’t have to put your life on hold until you feel better about your body.

Food freedom isn’t about doing everything perfectly, either. It’s about having more room for flexibility, nourishment, pleasure, connection, movement, rest, and… well, being a whole person. šŸ’•

If one of these reminders hit a little too close to home, save this for a day when you need it again. Or send it to someone who might need the reminder, too. šŸ’Œ

And if thoughts about food, exercise, or your body are taking up more space than you want them to, you don’t have to untangle all of that by yourself. Maddox Nutrition offers support for building a more peaceful, flexible relationship with food and your body without making another list of rules for you to follow.

This one is also for all the baby RDs out there. šŸ„¹šŸ’•

And maybe that’s one of the most meaningful parts of growing in eating disorder care: realizing that you don’t have to become the ā€œperfectā€ dietitian. You just have to stay curious, compassionate, and willing to grow. šŸ¤

That’s something we’ve experienced at Maddox Nutrition, too. 🫶

If you’re a newer dietitian finding your footing in eating disorder care, you don’t have to figure everything out by yourself. Natalie’s professional consultation group is a space to ask questions, learn from real clinical experiences, and grow alongside other dietitians doing this work. To the woman who has cried about her weight... I see you. I hear you.

And I want you to know this:

You are NOT failing. Your body is not broken. Healing your relationship with food and your metabolism is far more important than chasing a number.šŸ«¶šŸ¼šŸ«¶šŸ¼šŸ«¶šŸ¼

For someone with an eating disorder or a history of chronic dieting, continuing to pursue weight loss can keep the very cycle they’re trying to escape alive.

You don’t have to suddenly love your body. You don’t have to feel comfortable with every change. You can simply begin practicing the idea that your body deserves care even when it doesn’t look the way you wish it did.

If this is something you’re beginning to explore, Maddox Nutrition wants to make support as accessible as possible. 95% of our clients pay $0 out of pocket for their sessions, and we accept Aetna, Cigna, UMR/United Healthcare, and Anthem/BlueCross BlueShield. We also provide Superbills for those using out-of-network benefits. šŸ¤

And there’s genuinely no rush. You can keep learning, save this post, follow along, and come back when or if you feel ready to take the next step. āœØšŸ«¶šŸ¼šŸ’•

We’ve been getting this question more and more often lately… Let’s talk about it!

So when we support clients on GLP-1 medications, we’re going to prioritize your nutritional wellbeing while honoring your right to client autonomy in your health decisions.

Our top priorities are to help you…
- maintain a healthy relationship with food and body
- rebuild body trust
- recognize hunger/fullness cues
- reduce risk for disordered eating behavior

Nutrition & eating does not have to feel as complicated as it does these days…

Here’s the thing, nutrition science IS complex. Very complex and nuanced actually. It’s a rather new field of science (compared to astronomy & physics for example), research is constantly evolving, and literally every single person’s body may respond uniquely to nutrition.

BUT rest assured that you don’t need to go down every nutrition rabbit hole that social media sends you down! There’s a whole field of healthcare providers who dedicated years of education, clinical experience, and 1:1 direct care experience to the study of nutritionšŸ‘©šŸ½ā€šŸ”¬

Registered Dietitians study this stuff so that you can get support that feels simplified and tailored to your real lifešŸ¤—

We provide nutrition counseling & education so you can focus on what actually matters… and let go of what doesn’tāŒ

Any form of restriction disguised as "just a wellness advice" also tends to backfire biologically.

When the body senses scarcity, hunger cues often get louder, thoughts about food increase, and eating can start to feel chaotic or emotionally charged. That is not lack of willpower. Your body is literally designed to protect you and keep you alive. šŸ¤

If conversations like this help you feel a little more grounded around food and body image, Maddox Nutrition shares gentle, non-diet education rooted in intuitive eating and compassionate care šŸ’š

You can stay awhile, learn at your own pace, and take what feels supportive for you right now. There is no pressure to have everything figured out overnight ✨

And when you're ready, we're here for you.

The most fitting audio for #5 šŸ™ƒšŸ˜‚

1. ā€œNo, I haven’t had breakfast yet,ā€ says my 11am client… 🫣GIRL let’s go to your kitchen and fix that ASAPšŸ„ÆšŸŒ Eating in session with your dietitian is always approved!

2. Christians equating body size immediately with gluttony/sināŒ there is NOTHING about one’s body size that can tell you the status of their heart or relationship with the Lord. ā€œFor the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.ā€ 1 Samuel 16:7

3. Providers prescribing GLP-1s for patients with a history of or an active EDšŸ’” oh man this one breaks my heart because this could be prevented by providers receiving more education on EDs, challenging weight bias in medicine, and knowing what questions to ask patients about their actual relationship with food

4. ā€œSo what do you do for work?ā€ āž”ļø the least favorite question for every dietitian at a social event… No, I will not make you a meal plan and no, I’m not judging what’s on your plate.

5. The Wii FIT to ED pipeline… if you were 12 years old in 2007, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEANšŸ™ƒ

when eating is built around what is ā€œallowedā€ or ā€œoff-limits,ā€ your brain goes into constant evaluation mode. Am I doing this right? Did I mess up? Should I compensate later?
over time, food stops feeling like nourishment and starts to feel like something you have to manage perfectly.

that pressure is not a sign that you need more discipline.
It is often a sign that your relationship with food has been shaped by control, not trust.

We're still accepting new virtual nutrition clients. Book your first session at maddoxnutrition.co šŸ’»
