🎉 Congratulations to Dionne Jenkins, Division Director of Corrections, on receiving the Ohio Community Corrections Association (OCCA) Leadership Award at this year’s conference!

This award honors Dionne’s longstanding commitment to community corrections and her impactful leadership within OCCA—serving on the Member Development Committee, chairing the Training Committee, and contributing as a member-at-large on the Executive Committee.

In true OCCA tradition, the honor was a surprise—but Dionne started to catch on when she spotted her parents, who traveled from Dayton, at the Awards Luncheon in Columbus. 💛

As OCCA President Jason Varney shared, Dionne leads “with integrity, honesty, and a heart for service.”

And in her own words: “I do what I do because I love our purpose and I want to see our clients become better versions of themselves.”

We are proud to celebrate Dionne and the difference she makes every day!

Last week, our Family & Children’s (F&C) team proudly wrapped up the Rainbow Days evidence-based prevention program with our HYPE students! 🌈

Over the past 12 weeks, students gathered each Monday to continue strengthening the social-emotional skills we build year-round in HYPE—like resilience, positive self-esteem, responsible decision-making, social awareness, and healthy coping strategies—while also learning how to resist peer pressure and make substance-free choices. Each session combined meaningful conversations with age-appropriate activities, creating space for growth, connection, and confidence.

Led by our certified F&C staff, the program provided a safe and supportive environment for youth—many of whom have experienced adversity, trauma, or toxic stress—to feel seen, supported, and empowered.

We celebrated this milestone on Monday, May 18, with a joyful Rainbow Days graduation! Students signed commitment cards to remain drug-free, received certificates of completion, and enjoyed ice cream and cupcakes together. 🍦🧁
We’re so proud of these young leaders and the bright, healthy futures they’re building every day. 💛

✨ Evening of Light 2026: Building Better Tomorrows ✨

On Saturday, May 2, nearly 500 guests gathered at the casino for an unforgettable Evening of Light—an inspiring night filled with connection, generosity, and purpose.

The energy in the room was incredible as our community came together to make a powerful impact. Thank you to our presenting sponsor, AEP Ohio Foundation, for their continued leadership and support, as well as to all of our sponsors, impact partners, and volunteers who helped bring this special evening to life.

One of the most moving moments of the night was the fun and joyful performance by the children from our Family & Children’s Program, who performed a song they created themselves.

The generosity of our supporters also led to a record-breaking Text-to-Give, helping to strengthen programs that create brighter futures for families across our community.

Because of this collective support, Evening of Light continues to fund and grow our Family & Children’s Program—helping build better tomorrows for those we serve.

💛 Thank you for being part of a community that shines so brightly. 💛

Morgan Schaaf founder of The Good Kitchen, a new Columbus non-profit, teams up with local chefs to provide at least three “chef takeovers” a month. It is Schaaf’s unique way to address food insecurity.

“Food insecurity is real, Schaaf said. Food prepared and served by Columbus restaurants certainly is a welcome alternative to leftovers, she believes.

This month the Good Kitchen worked with Katalina's Restaurant and owner, Kathleen Day, to provide a chef takeover breakfast buffet for 50 women at Amethyst, an Alvis Recovery Program. The sumptuous buffet was graciously served by Day’s staff and included Katalina’s famous pancake balls in three flavors.

But it wasn’t just the creative and delicious food that captured the attention of Amethyst women that morning. Kathleen’s forthcoming personal story about her life, drive, restaurants, and determination to overcome the alcohol use disorder she struggled with for years was dynamic. Her words provided motivation for the Amethyst women. She demonstrated that the belief in the potential for a better tomorrow and an exciting, productive future can be theirs.

“You don’t have to live under the cloud of substance abuse illness,” she concluded.

“Thank you,” wrote Tabitha in a note. “You have encouraged me to love myself instead of drinking my life away.”

All the women at Amethyst wish to express their appreciation to the staff at the Good Kitchen and Katalina's for bringing this special experience to their table.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. 💚

At Alvis, we know mental health affects every part of a person’s life—and that real support requires a comprehensive, compassionate approach.

That’s why we offer a full continuum of behavioral health services, including mental health counseling, psychiatric care, substance use treatment, and recovery housing—meeting each person where they are in their journey.

Through case management, peer support, workforce development, and community-based services, we help individuals build stability, independence, and lasting recovery.
We also provide specialized behavioral health support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, ensuring everyone has access to care that supports growth, dignity, and independence.

Mental Health Awareness Month is also about prevention, education, and reminding people that it’s okay to ask for help. No one should feel alone in their struggles—and healing is possible with the right support.

This month—and every month—we are committed to breaking stigma, encouraging open conversations, and expanding access to care.

Because at Alvis, we believe recovery is possible—and no one should have to navigate it alone.

🌸 Spring at HYPE has been FULL of fun! 🌸

Our HYPE kiddos have been soaking up the sunshine, trying new things, and making memories all season long—and we’ve loved every minute of it!

☀️ Outside Play
The sun came out and so did we! A trip to Dodge Rec Center meant fresh air, big smiles, and lots of laughter. The warm weather had everyone feeling extra silly and playful—and there’s truly nothing better than good vibes and happy kids.

🎉 All‑Day HYPE (Games + Ninja Citi!)
We kicked things off with game time—because at HYPE, games aren’t just fun, they help build real skills like cooperation, math, and strategic thinking 🧠. After lunch, we headed to Ninja Citi, where jaws were ON THE FLOOR. Wall climbing, trampolines, and full‑on American Ninja Warrior energy—basically a dream day for our kids!

Moments like these remind us why HYPE matters: safe spaces, joyful experiences, and opportunities for kids to learn, grow, and just be kids. 💚
