The Behavior Doc We are an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) agency owned and run by doctorate-level behavior analysts. Our agency relies on a face-to-face model.

At The Behavior Doc, we understand that every child is unique and deserving of the highest standard of care. As a premier Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy provider, our mission is to empower children and families with the tools they need to thrive. Telehealth has become the acceptable standard for behavior analyst (BCBA) involvement following since 2020 with the onset of Covid-19, but our agency recognizes the need for in-person involvement to provide quality services.

Emerging Social Skills: Inclusion Has No Voice Requirement!

There is nothing quite like the magic of watching a child break through the invisible walls of isolation to connect, share, and play with a peer—spontaneously and joyfully! At The Behavior Doc, true social inclusion doesn't just happen by putting kids in the same room. We actively cultivate, facilitate, and aggressively reinforce it.

When our learners bridge the communication gap to initiate a game or share a moment, it represents a massive milestone. And let’s be entirely clear:

**Functional communication does not require a vocal voice.**

Whether a child uses an AAC device, PECS icons, signs, or vocal approximations, their desire to connect is exactly the same. Here’s how our dedicated 1:1 therapists make sure our non-vocal kiddos are fully invited, included, and engaged:

**Bridging the Communication Barrier:**

Our 1:1 therapists act as the ultimate social facilitators. If one child uses an AAC device to say "Play blocks!" and another responds vocally, the therapist is right there to translate, prompt, and ensure the interaction seamlessly flows. We teach our peers that every communication method is valid and powerful.

**Capturing the Shared Motivation (Establishing Operations):**

Social skills blossom when they are anchored in mutual joy. When two children lock eyes over a shared love for a sensory bin or a train track, our therapists seize that exact moment of shared motivation to engineer a meaningful peer interaction.

* **Contriving Inclusive Play (NET):**

We don't just sit back and hope a non-vocal child gets included. We actively structure the natural environment so that every game has an entry point for every communication style. Passing a ball, trading a toy via a PECS exchange, or cheering a friend on by tapping an iPad button—these are the building blocks of lifelong social confidence.

By immediately reinforcing these early social connections, we are strengthening the most beautiful verbal and non-verbal operants of all: friendship and belonging. We are teaching all of our kids a fundamental truth: Your presence matters, your method of communication is powerful, and when you reach out, the world responds.

Every shared glance, every icon exchanged, and every joint smile is a massive victory on the path to true, meaningful inclusion.

Emerging Speakers are celebrated and reinforced! Today's spontaneous vocal proclamation inspired a piece of art! "Happy June" everyone! 🎨🌈

As a BCBA, there is nothing quite like the magic of hearing a child weaponize their words—spontaneously and joyfully! In Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behavior (VB), we don’t just wait for language to happen; we contrive, capture, and aggressively reinforce it.

When an emerging speaker delivers a spontaneous vocal proclamation like "Happy June!", it represents a massive milestone. Here’s why we are celebrating so hard today:

Capturing the Motivation (Motivating Operation): Language blossoms when it is tied to what a child is feeling and experiencing in the moment. Today, that inner joy met vocal expression perfectly.

Differential Reinforcement: When a novel or spontaneous vocalization occurs, we level up our reinforcement. A standard "good job" won't do!

Natural Environment Training (NET): Instead of just delivering a token or a snack, the reinforcement was directly tied to the natural environment. Their vocalization instantly unlocked a preferred, highly engaging, and creative activity—bringing the words "Happy June" to life on the easel you see here!

By immediately pairing their spoken words with a high-value, functional reward (painting a bright, beautiful rainbow), we are strengthening that verbal operant. We are teaching them a fundamental truth: Your voice has power, and when you speak, amazing things happen.

Every sound, every approximation, and every spontaneous word is a victory on the path to functional communication.

We are an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) agency owned and run by doctorate-level behavior analysts.

“He just keeps pressing the same button…”
We hear this a lot—and we want you to know: that is learning. 💬

At The Behavior Doc, we view early AAC use as an important exploratory phase. Repeatedly pressing a single button isn’t “misuse”—it’s a child discovering cause and effect, building familiarity, and gaining confidence with their voice.

Through Natural Environment Teaching, we support AAC development in real, playful moments—whether a child is:
🧩 Exploring sounds during play
🎨 Pressing a favorite button while drawing
🏀 Using their device to engage during shared activities

With 1:1 guidance, we gently model and expand communication, meeting each child where they are—without taking away their autonomy or curiosity.

We assume competence. Always.
And we know that meaningful communication grows from these early, powerful moments of exploration. 🌱

Every press is a step toward connection. 💛

After all the snow, rain, and tornado weather, our kiddos are Jumping for Joy and welcoming spring today!

One of the benefits of our clinic locations includes facilitated peer and play skills. These three have been having the best day, spring crafts, time in our sensory gym, and engaging with peers!

All smiles on this sunshiny FriYay!
