Denver made disability rights history.

In 1978, a group known as the “Gang of 19” took to the streets of downtown Denver. After being denied access to public buses, they blocked traffic with their wheelchairs and demanded change, chanting “We will ride.”

That act of civil disobedience led to real impact: accessible buses in Denver and momentum for a national movement that helped shape disability rights across the country, including the eventual passage of the ADA.

At Atlantis Community, Inc., we’re proud to continue this legacy of advocacy, independence, and inclusion right here in Denver.
