Today is Well Done Wednesday, where we spotlight exceptional work by our paramedics, AEMTs and EMTs. This week’s honorees are Paramedic Adam Crute, Paramedic Andrew Lomax, AEMT Dave Brown, EMT Andre Gomez-Demine, EMT Kyle Hodge, Paramedic Mike Martin, EMT Jennifer Eguiza-Gomez, and District Chief Josue Valeriano.

These crews responded to an automated crash notification that turned out to be a serious wreck with patients ejected and entrapped. Despite a prolonged extrication for one patient, all of the survivors were triaged, treated and transported within ten minutes of the transporting EMS unit arriving on scene.

Welcome to the new and improved DCEMS by the Numbers! With the help of Quality Assurance Program Manager Kyle Ronn, we have updated the information provided to better reflect our operational performance and system demands. All of the following data comes from ESO Suite, our documentation and reporting software. The new categories are as follows:

Incidents By Day: The average number of EMS incidents per day for the last seven days.
Total Incidents: The total number of unique EMS incidents over the last seven days.
Total Patients: The total number of EMS incidents with patient contacts over the last seven days.
Total Transports: The total number of patients transported over the last seven days.
Median High Acuity Response: The median response time (from en route to on scene) for all calls that were triaged as Delta or Echo level by our dispatch center.
Median Low Acuity Response: The median response time (from en route to on scene) for all calls that were triaged as Omega, Alpha, Bravo or Charlie by our dispatch center.

Today is Save Sunday, where we recognize the medics, AEMTs and EMTs who were involved in cardiac arrests with sustained ROSC (return of spontaneous circulation) during the previous week. Great job everyone!

Therapy dogs Rue (German Shepherd) and Teddy (Golden Retriever) paid some visits to EMS Station 2 and HQ over the summer. Thanks to Division Chief Helen Tripp for arranging the therapy dog visits, and thanks to handlers AJ and Nan for bringing them by!

Please join us in belatedly congratulating Paramedic Kathryn Sprague and EMT Gracie Brodgen for successfully completing the FTEP process. They are now cleared for independent practice within the Durham County EMS system.

We appreciate the hard work and dedication of our FTOs, shift leadership, education staff, and FTEP coordinator in preparing them for independent practice. Special thanks to Cpl. Shaw, Sgt. Schmidt, Sgt. Tolley, and FTEP Coordinator Sara Houston for their contributions.

Today is Well Done Wednesday, where we spotlight exceptional work by our paramedics, AEMTs and EMTs. This week’s honorees are Paramedic Adam Regoni and EMT Preston Antrilli.

An anonymous patient writes, ““From the moment Adam and Preston arrived, they brought a remarkable combination of calm, confidence, technical expertise, and genuine compassion. There was no wasted motion, no uncertainty, only a team that clearly knew exactly what they were doing while never losing sight of the person in front of them. Today is Well Done Wednesday, where we spotlight exceptional work by our paramedics, AEMTs and EMTs. This week’s honorees are Paramedic Darren Steadman, Paramedic Jacob Boothe, and EMT Kenneth Sweigard.

These providers recently responded to a patient suffering from concerning cardiac symptoms with no palpable blood pressure, a wildly varying pulse rate, and respiratory distress. Their assessment was complicated by difficult conditions on scene.

While the patient initially refused all treatment, the crew, with the assistance of medical control, was able to convince him to allow treatment and transport, including eventually vasopressors for shock that did not respond to fluid resuscitation. Great job!
