You got 20 minutes with the hospital lactation consultant. 🩺

Then you went home, and the questions started piling up.

Here are 3 latch myths I help untangle every week as a lactation counselor:

✨ Myth 1: "If it hurts, you're doing it wrong."
Truth: Pain has many causes. Latch is one, but tongue tie, positioning, oversupply, and even baby's body tension can be the real story. Pain isn't a verdict.

✨ Myth 2: "Cluster feeding means your milk is low."
Truth: Almost always the opposite. Cluster feeding is how baby tells your body to make more. It's growth, not failure.

✨ Myth 3: "Pump after every feed to build supply."
Truth: Sometimes yes. More often no. The wrong pumping plan can backfire and cause oversupply, mastitis, or a baby who never finishes a feed.

The hospital LC sees a snapshot. Ongoing lactation support sees the whole picture: your body, your baby, your day. As a CLC, CBS, and Fl**ge Fit Specialist, that whole picture is what I do. 🤍

Save this if you're nursing, or send it to a friend who's struggling at 3 AM.

Not every "lactation consultant" sees the same picture. 🩺

You met one at the hospital. They watched a feed for 20 minutes. They left.

That isn't the same as ongoing, qualified lactation support, and ongoing is what most feeding challenges actually need.

I'm a CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor), a CBS (Certified Breastfeeding Specialist), and a Fl**ge Fit Specialist trained through Babies in Common. That combination covers most of what families come to me for.

Here's when you call for ongoing support:

✨ Pain that's lasted past week two
✨ A baby who isn't gaining weight the way they should be
✨ Mastitis, plugged ducts, or a sudden supply drop
✨ A planned return to work and no idea where to start
✨ A tongue or lip tie someone mentioned but never explained
✨ Pumping pain or low output where fl**ge fit might be the missing piece
✨ Any feeding situation that's making you cry more than three days in a row

For cases that need IBCLC-level diagnostic, I work alongside Sierra Woods, IBCLC, at MelaMama Maternal Wellness. We refer to each other when it makes sense. You get the right level of support for your specific situation.

I do home visits. I do virtual visits. I bring a scale, a plan, and zero judgment. 🤍

If any of these are happening for you right now, DM me the word "FEED" and we'll get you on the calendar this week.

You don't have to white-knuckle through this season.

If you're reading this at 3 AM with a baby in one arm and tears in your eyes, here's what I'd tell you. 🌙

Feeding is hard.
You are not failing.
Both can be true at once.

The 3 AM messages I get always start the same way: "I think I'm doing this wrong."

You aren't.

You're feeding a brand-new human, on no sleep, with a body that's still healing. Your wires are crossed because they're supposed to be. This is a marathon, not a sprint, and you don't have to finish it alone.

Real lactation support means I don't disappear at 5 PM. I show up in the messy hours. I help you read your baby and your body. I don't judge a single bottle, supplement, or decision you make to survive this season.

If feeding has felt like a wall lately, please reach out. There is almost always more to the story than "you're doing it wrong."

P.S. We host a free Breastfeeding Support Group on the first Monday of every month. Bring your questions, your baby, and your snacks. DM me "GROUP" for the next date and details.

Comment a 🤍 if this is the message you needed tonight.

Birth support isn't a transaction. 📖

It's a relationship. And the depth of that relationship is what makes the difference on birth day.

Here's the relationship you get when you book me as your birth doula:

✨ Four prenatal sessions. Not "check-ins," but real preparation. We cover your birth plan, your fears, your what-ifs, your rights, and your partner's role.
✨ Weekly check-ins through your third trimester so nothing sneaks up on us
✨ Continuous in-person labor support. I don't leave when shifts change.
✨ Partner education so they walk into that room knowing exactly what to do
✨ A postpartum follow-up plus a soft handoff to lactation if you need it

I keep my client roster small on purpose. I'd rather give five families my full presence than ten families half of it. 💜

If you're due in late summer or fall, my calendar is opening this week.

Hi, I'm TaKiesha. 🤍

I became a doula because of my own birth.

Not because it was beautiful, but because it almost wasn't survivable.

I was a Black mama in a system that doesn't always listen. I came home with a medically fragile daughter and a story I'm still unpacking.

What I needed in that room was someone who could:
✨ See me clearly
✨ Speak up when I couldn't
✨ Prepare me for what was actually about to happen, not just the sanitized version

I didn't have her then.

So I became her. 💜

Every family I work with gets the doula I wish I'd had: calm, steady, honest about the hard parts, and never leaving when shifts change.

If your gut is telling you that you need someone in your corner, that's reason enough to reach out. I'm here.

DM me "HELLO" or click the link in my bio when you're ready to talk.

Most people don't really know what a doula does on birth day. 🤍

So when someone says, "Why do I need one if I have a doctor and a nurse?" I get it. The roles can blur if no one explains them.

Here's what I'm actually doing while you labor:

✨ I'm the calm hand on your back when contractions stack up
✨ I'm translating medical talk into plain English the second a doctor walks out
✨ I'm holding space for your partner so they can hold space for you
✨ I'm advocating for what we already decided, even when you can't speak for it
✨ I'm staying. Through shift changes. Through long nights. Through every "I can't do this anymore."

I'm not replacing your medical team. I'm walking with you through every minute of it.

A doula isn't a luxury.
It's the steady presence most birthing rooms are missing. 💜

Save this for later, or send it to the partner who's still figuring out why doula support matters.
