I just absolutely love this 💕 Jenn Bond from Five15 Properties joined our women’s circle last night to share financial wisdom that will carry us to retirement. It was so beautiful for a group of only women to come together and talk money with no shame or judgement for not understanding something.

We drank Tulsi, known as holy basil or liquid yoga, due to it’s very effective calming properties. We ate Daal because the lentils represent abundance and coins, and also cornbread for good luck and gold.

We made Feng Shui money bowls and unfortunately I took zero pictures of our activity because it was so fun!

I also wanted to share the homestead basket I made for Jenn as a thank you for her time and energy. It made me reflect on how lovely and gentle bartering can be. Wealth and abundance comes in so many forms and is not just representative of numbers on a page.

I am taking a break in August from our women’s circle to focus on a few farm activities. But I am really excited about our co- teachers and guests for September & October!!

A lot of women I talk to do not have a plan for future financial security. Many have said they are relying on their husbands retirement plan and do not have a back up plan themselves. Jennifer Bond will be sharing financial and investment wisdom.

We will be making feng shui money bowls… I’ll supply the base but feel free to bring anything green or money related to put in the bowl. We will have holy basil (tulsi tea) and do a clove hot towel meditation. We will have a vegan lentil soup and cornbread to symbolize prosperity✨

How do I know thorin is in a sensitive period for fine motor development? Three different videos highlighting the activities he is currently gravitating towards. Using the hand three different ways, but each with deep focus and concentration.

Fine motor activities are extremely important in young childhood years to promote a strong pencil grip and handwriting skills later in life. Maria Montessori recognized that our hands our the tools of our intelligence. With the use of more technology these days, I work with many kids who have significant fine motor delays. The less we use our hands, the less our brains will be stimulated to create new neuron connections. These children often become frustrated and defiant in school. Ensure your child has ample opportunities to use their hands in different ways with various sized instruments. This will lead to proper finger development, eye hand coordination, and lowers the risk of adhd due to periods of deep concentration.

An important lesson!

Many times when working with parents and children, a parent will ask their child to give away their work when another child becomes interested in it. The parent will often say “you have to share with your friends” and while this is true in the long run, interrupting a child’s focus and concentration to give their work away is extremely upsetting to them. Could you imagine handing over a good book right when you become completely absorbed?

Instead, send the message to both children that you will let the interested child know when the work is available. When your child finishes working with the material you can say “let’s get this work ready for the next friend, they’ve been waiting”. The work will then be passed along joyfully instead of fitfully!

Did I get your attention?!

Sharing is not developmentally appropriate for toddlers.
Toddlers are egocentric, and they need to be. They’re focused on building themselves, their independence, and their understanding of the world.

Can we model waiting? Absolutely.
“When they’re finished, it will be your turn.”
But expecting toddlers to share a material at the same time is an expectation for an older child.

When a toddler is using a material, they need to know it is theirs to explore, repeat, practice, and master. And when someone else is using a material, we give that child the same respect. It’s theirs until they’re finished.

That’s how toddlers learn respect for themselves, for others, and for the work they’re doing.

I am so looking forward to tomorrow evening. Admittedly, I have been pouring from an empty cup recently. These women’s circles are so fulfilling and bring so much gratitude back into my life.

I am also excited because all of the herbs and flowers in tomorrow’s tea blending bar are grown by yours truly. We will have unique flavors from black lace elderflower, borage, raspberry leaf, and holy basil (tulsi).

Watermelon Strawberry Gazpacho & Tres Leches con Fresas will be on the menu. Our meditation will focus on the playfulness of the strawberry full moon… a reminder to be youthful in our play, take pleasure in the simple moments, and maybe to take a step back from work during these beautiful summer days ☀️
