This month we welcome as our guest speaker

Captain Stacy Lynn, founder of , has been immersed in the sport since 1995 and brings over 25 years of experience as a professional casting and fishing coach. A USCG Captain and TPWD licensed guide, she specializes in teaching anglers from a technical poling skiff on the Texas saltwater flats. SGFF March Meeting Announcement!!

It’s almost like Mother Nature knew we had scheduled Chili Night for our March club meeting and dropped the temps JUST a bit!! Craig Hunter and friends have been working hard to prepare a few steaming pots of chili for us. So grab a bowl, pull up a chair, and settle in for another great SGFF meeting.

As an added bonus our SGFF Conservation Chair, AJ Karaffa, will be talking about snakes commonly found in and around our local fisheries, how to identify them, their habits, and what to do in the event of a snake bite.

AJ grew up in Northern New York, where he first learned to fish for trout using Rooster Tails. Over time, that early passion evolved into a love for fly fishing. When he’s not on the water, he works full-time as a firefighter paramedic and also owns and operates a painting business.

As always, our meetings are free and open to the public.

It seems SGFF member Ben Landrum was holding out on us with another Christmas Island photo. A real nice Blue Parrotfish, and not the worst view either. Judging by the goofy smile on his face, he clearly had a blast out there!!

After all that cold it’s nice to have some warmer temps to hit the water.

But also, it’s time for an SGFF monthly meeting!!!

Our speaker this month is Justin Crockett, a full-time fly fishing guide based in Texas and Alaska. Raised in Washington State, he’s been immersed in the fly fishing industry from an early age. He began by tying flies for a local fly shop and went on to work in—and later own—fly fishing retail shops in Washington, Alabama, and Florida. Crockett launched his guiding career in 1994, spending years guiding throughout Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula and Bristol Bay drainages.

Justin is the owner and operator of The Texas Gillie, a guiding service in the Texas Hill Country, where he guides for trout on the Guadalupe River and warmwater species across regional waterways. In addition, Crockett guides for salmon and steelhead out of The Yakutat Lodge in Yakutat, Alaska

Justin will cover a wide range of topics about fly fishing in Alaska. The species, seasons, flies, and tackle. He will cover other essential equipment to make the trip safer and more comfortable. Crockett will also discuss different techniques, from catching coho salmon on topwater, swinging flies with two handed rods, to saltwater salmon and lingcod.

As always, our meetings are free and open to the public.

We are off to a big start for 2026 over here at SGFF. Lots of exciting guest speakers, outings, and projects that we can’t wait to share with everyone!

But first: It’s time for the first club meeting of 2026!!! Join us Tuesday, January 20th when our guest speaker will be, the club’s very own, Chris Summers.

Chris grew up in Western Washington on Puget Sound where he spent most of his free time outside in the woods or on the water. A long time fisherman, at 12 he received his first fly rod from his grandfather. Chris spent much of his time on the water chasing anadromous fish salmon, steelhead, and cutthroat trout. When he moved to Texas in 2021, Chris says he “could count the number of bass and sunfish he had caught on one hand and had never heard of Rio Grande Cichlids” (something tells us, this may have changed since he moved here).

His presentation on Tuesday will focus on the unique and special fisheries in Washington state and how to plan a DIY trip to the Kettle River in the NE section of the state.

As always, our meetings are free and open to the public.
