Neuro Wellness Center

Neuro Wellness Center Neuro Wellness Gilbert is a “Safe Haven” of friendship, exercise, art, education and support for the movement disorder community.

The wellness center, open since January 2012, was made possible by the philanthropy of Gilbert residents Alan Fitzgerald and his wife, Sheila, who attends as part of her management program for her Parkinson's. Outreach Program Manager Annette Edwards said that the center’s long-term goal is to “develop a program that is proven to be effective and can be duplicated. The goal is for the Neuro Wellne

ss Center to set the bar for effective long-term treatment for individuals with Parkinson’s disease.”

BNW CoffeeTalk Member Spotlight - Pam L-G, 8-21-2026

Friday's member spotlight was presented by Pam, who shared her life story through an enlightening and informative way using a mixture of photos, storytelling (especially examples of how education has been so important to her personally and to her family), movie references and treasured books (passed around), and a gallery of posters that reinforced her talk and allowed us to dive deeper into specific aspects of her life's story all while weaving it together like a tapestry using the alphabet (i.e., ABC's) primer theme as only a lifelong educator could do. We learned so much about her journey and values through her presentation.

We gathered to enjoy ice cream with all the toppings on a hot July day. The smiles were plentiful as we got caught up with each other outside of exercise classes.

At CoffeeTalk yesterday, we enjoyed a member spotlight with Danny P. Danny shared with us a little about his childhood, time as a pilot in the Air Force, and his experience as a professor at Arizona State University. He explained how his prior experiences helped him to understand the impacts of hazardous materials and the importance of a process based on research to gain knowledge, formulating plans for preparation, implementing regular training to understand obstacles and to learn where more knowledge is needed, implementation of new protocols and ways of doing things and openness to repeating this process over and over to be successful in emergency management. Danny also explained how he uses these same guiding principles in his personal journey with Parkinson’s Disease. These principles includes research into Parkinson’s Disease, regular doctor visits, learning from others who are also living with Parkinson’s to learn and adapt ways to having a better quality of life with the disease, formulating and implementing plans of action that include regular exercise and socialization at BNW, modifying (as necessary) his lifestyle to work through the challenges that are unique to his specific symptoms, and then doing it again and again to be successful in daily living. It was so informative and we enjoyed his presentation.
