After leaving a functional medicine conference in Boise last week, I was home long enough to wash clothes and jump in the car with my kids for a road trip to the east coast.

In Vermont, we met up with Jase (my husband) and several other men from Grand Rapids and all across the U.S. to leave my son to walk into the journey of Boys’ Rites of Passage.

A sacred ceremony weekend held and witnessed by the mountains, rivers, forest, wildlife, and incredible men who have already experienced the transformative effect of fasting and solo journey into the unknown.

The twins and I journeyed to Maine to pray over him and play in the ocean’s tide pools.

I’ll be back in office on Wednesday, but for now we are unplugged, covered in lemon eucalyptus oil (the ticks are fierce here!), and immersed in the wild.

ECO26 Health and Longevity Conference day 2 began with the famous OB/Gyn, Dr. Tara Scott, educating on the role of the gut and liver on hormones.

The day ended with Ben Greenfield, the “father of biohacking”, speaking on the importance of detoxification of parasites and lymphatic system before beginning any of the wildly techy products.

My brain is in overdrive and my heart is full. Full of love for my health-driven clients, my family holding down the fort, and for a God who creates bodies that know how to heal with the right tools.

Day one of a functional medicine conference in Boise surrounded by physicians, psychologists, pharmacists, naturopathic doctors, chiropractors, and nurses who are dreaming together of a new future in medicine.

No more sick care.

We are here to learn the latest in regenerative and longevity medicine. We are here to grow.

And most importantly, we are here to return to our clients and patients. Invigorated, energized, and excited to bring our education home.

Join us in the revolution. Medicine is no longer about suppressing symptoms. It’s about living optimally.

Stinging nettle cake for a spring festival.

Nettles are one of the fundamental herbal remedies for spring allergies. I love this wild w**d for increasing iron and mineral stores, increasing circulation, and kidney health.

There are 7 cups of stinging nettle picked from my backyard in this cake! And made it such a pretty color without toxic dyes.

Nettle is abundant this spring and I’m headed out now to pick what I need for the rest of the year.

The best medicine is free. Go get yours.

Health doesn’t come from a one-time detox.

Health is in the consistent, deliberate actions we take in our everyday choices.

The Chinese bamboo tree doesn’t grow for the first five years after the seed is planted. It requires daily watering and patience, and after five years, grows 90 feet in 6 months.

Patience, persistence, perseverance.

Your health is 100% your responsibility. Tend it, water it. Watch it grow.

Every meal, every action (or in-action), every distraction, is a choice.

No one can push-up for you.
