𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟵: 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘅𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀

Carbon monoxide (CO) is often called the “silent killer” because you can’t see, smell, or taste it. CO can build up in a home when fuel-burning appliances or equipment aren’t working properly.

Taking a few minutes to test your detectors can help make sure they’re ready to alert you if dangerous levels of CO are detected.

𝗧𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆’𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: Test every carbon monoxide detector in your home and check that the batteries are working. If a detector is outdated or not functioning properly, replace it.

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟵: 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘀

Smoke can spread quickly during a home fire, so having working smoke alarms throughout your home is an important part of being prepared.

Today is a good opportunity to walk through your home and check every alarm. If an alarm doesn’t sound when tested, replace the batteries or the alarm as needed. Don’t forget to check alarms in less frequently used areas, too.

You may have heard the buzz that has its first confirmed Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus activity. A horse has tested positive for the virus which means that there are with EEE in the state that can transmit it to people and animals. That's why it’s important to apply bug spray and wear long sleeves, pants, and closed-toed shoes to prevent mosquito bites and disease.

Ｗｅｅｋ２：ＰｒｏｔｅｃｔＹｏｕｒＨｏｍｅ

We’re moving into Week 2 of 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝟯𝟬: 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵, 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲!

This week, we’re focusing on simple ways to make your home safer and reduce the risk of fire. Throughout the week, we’ll cover important fire safety steps, including checking your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, reviewing your fire extinguisher, and practicing your home escape plan.

𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟮 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆: 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗲𝘁

We’re giving away 50 fire blankets to help community members add another layer of fire safety to their homes.
